Warren Dean Coley
DURHAM — Warren Dean Coley, 59, of Durham went to heaven on Saturday, August 17, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He is now CANCER FREE!
Warren is survived by his wife, Lissa Shook Coley; a daughter, Melissa Coley Chambers; a son, Brian Dean Coley; two grandchildren, Brittni Nicole Chambers and Christian Hunter Chambers; his mother, Pat Coley of Stantonsburg; his brothers, Durrell Coley (Syble) of Goldsboro, Dennis Coley (Susan) of Kenly, Freddie Coley of Stantonsburg; sisters, Kaye Stallings (Jimmy) and Trisha Coley of Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Durrell Coley Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Dollie and Fred Coley; his father-in-law, Andrew Fred Shook Sr.; and sister-in-law, Teena Shook Myers.
Warren liked to help others, he had a giving heart, he loved his family, grandchildren and friends. He loved antique furniture and working with flowers. He worked at Ruth Hall Florist and previously owned Northgate Florist.
A visitation service will be held at First Pentecostal Church on 2008 Carver Street on Saturday, August 24th at 12 p.m. and a Celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Duke Hospice at 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704 or Duke Cancer Center, 20 Medicine Circle, Durham, NC 27710.

Dennis Lee Day
DURHAM - Dennis Lee Day, 66, departed life on August 19, 2013. He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Day; one stepson, five grandchildren, one great grand, three sisters, one brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary UCC, with visitation at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013.

William Kenneth Graham
DURHAM - Mr. William Kenneth Graham, born April 7th, 1961, passed away August 19, 2013. Born in Laurinburg, NC, he was the son of the (late) John W. Graham Sr and Ethel L. Graham. 
Mr. Graham is survived by his wife, Shannon Bennett Graham; one son, William K. Graham II; and one daughter, Sydney G. Graham.
A homegoing service will be conducted Saturday, August 24, 2013, 1 p.m. at Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church, 316 Hebron Road, Durham, NC 27704. The family invites visitation on Saturday prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. A second homegoing service will also be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013, 3 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 614 E. Rockingham Road, Maxton, NC. Interment will be in Hillside Memorial Park, Laurinburg, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions can be made to Bank of America, William K. Graham Children’s Memorial Scholarship Fund.

James Elwood Hayslett
DURHAM — James Elwood Hayslett was born January 26, 1926 in South Norfolk, Virginia to John Hayslett Sr., and Mattie Johnson Hayslett. After a very fruitful and enriched life, on August 16, 2013, he went to heaven to meet with his loving wife Beulah Inell Dudley Hayslett whom he married in July 1951.  
Mr. Hayslett received his early education in the Norfolk school system. In 1951 he received a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree, respectfully, from Howard University, Washington, DC in 1963. He was inducted into Alpha Chapter, Howard University in 1950; and joined Beta Phi Graduate Chapter in 1971. 
He is survived by his daughter, Delbroah Jones and her husband, Robert; one granddaughter; one grandson; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at St. Joseph AME Church, 2521 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC with Omega Service at 11:45 a.m., visitation at 12:15 p.m. and funeral service at 1 p.m.

Faye Hicks Kernodle
DURHAM — Mrs. Faye Hicks Kernodle, 75, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at Duke University Hospital. Born in Hillsborough, the daughter of the late William M. Richardson and Myrtle E. Richardson. Faye retired from Communications Department of Durham Regional Hospital in September 2000 after 22 years of service.
Faye is survived by her husband, William H. Kernodle; daughters, Mandy Daniel and husband, Sam of Durham; Michelle Kernodle of Brandon, FL; two sisters, Pansy Davis and Jean Holmes; two brothers, Roy Blalock and James Blalock; nephew, Richard Kernodle and wife, Beth; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Clements Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Mofield. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Kenneth Warren Scott

PITTSBORO — Kenneth Warren Scott, 54, of Pittsboro, died Friday (08-16-2013) at his home.
A casual gathering outside to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (08-24-2013) at 1291 River Forest Road, Pittsboro.  
Survivors include his sons, Kevin Scott, Corey Scott, Alex Scott, and their mother, Kim Williams Scott, all of Pittsboro; his mother, Kathryn Lloyd Scott of Chapel Hill; brothers, Tommy Scott of Caldwell, Billy Scott and Mike Scott of Chapel Hill, Jeff Scott of Pittsboro; sister, Janet Scott McFarland of Chapel Hill; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Durwood Scott.

Doyle Landon McFarling

HILLSBOROUGH — Doyle Landon McFarling passed away at UNC Hospital on August 20, 2013. He was 61 years old.
A memorial service will be held at American Cremation Services in Durham on Friday, August 23 at 2:00.
Doyle is survived by two daughters, Ashley Nazworth (Jason) of Mebane and Regina Wall (Brian) of Hillsborough; two grandchildren, Olivia Nazworth of Mebane and Michael Dickerson of Hillsborough; and a sister, Linda Coghill (Terry), of Hillsborough. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, James McFarling and Virginia Blanton; and a grandson, Joshua Dickerson.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Durham Rescue Mission.

Joanne Whitfield Rimmer
HURDLE MILLS — Joanne Whitfield Rimmer, age 81, passed away in her home on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Joanne and her twin, Dan Whitfield, were born in Hurdle Mills, NC on March 27, 1932 to the late Rosa Lee Horton and Daniel Lee Whitfield. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by a son, Douglas Randall (Randy) Rimmer; and sisters, Margaret W. Hutchens, Doris W. Breeze, Rose W. Blackard and Norma W. Whitfield.
Joanne graduated from Campbell College and was retired from Helena Elementary School. She was a faithful member of Clement Baptist Church and served in various roles.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Bernard Darrow Rimmer; daughter, Susan R. Buckley (Dan) of Apex; son, Bernard Darrow Rimmer II (Brenda) of Morrisville; daughter-in-law, Jonsi E. Rimmer of Roxboro; granddaughters, Corey A. Rimmer of Marion, Hannah E. Buckley of Apex, and Anna L. Rimmer of Roxboro; brother, Dan L. Whitfield (Shirley) of Hurdle Mills; brother-in-laws, Dale Rimmer (Jackie) of Roxboro and Barry Rimmer (Kay) of Hurdle Mills.
The family will receive friends at Clement Baptist Church Family Life Center (8480 Burlington Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541) from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 22. A celebration of her life will be held at Clement Church on Friday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joel Bradsher and Rev. Johnny Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery officiated by Dr. Ben Gault.
Pallbearers are Guy Townsend, J.C. Moize, and nephews, Dan Hutchens, Skip Hutchens, Tommy Whitfield, Danny Morris, Billy Martin, Dave Griffith, and David Hutchens. Honorary pallbearers will be retired Helena Elementary School staff.

Ray Alan Smith
RALEIGH — Ray Alan Smith, 52, born in Raleigh, NC, May 21, 1961 died in Durham, NC on August 17, 2013. He was a graduate of Broughton High School in Raleigh (1979) and UNC Greensboro (1983).
Alan is survived by his mother and stepfather, Linda and Harry Kledaras; his father and stepmother, Ray and Alice Smith, all of Raleigh; his twin sister and brother in law, Lanie and Mike Murray; nephew, Ryan Murray; niece and her husband, Suzanne and Jon Doble, all of Fuquay Varina; special love, Denise Weber of Durham; and beloved dogs Logan, Jake, Cassie, Clifford, and Sunshine.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, James Hubert and Norma Hatcher Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Smith of Micro, NC.
He was a beloved son, loving brother, and loyal friend. He will be greatly missed. Alan loved his family and was much loved in return.
A memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate Alan’s life on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s St., Raleigh. A visitation will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Private burial services will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
