Queenie Elizabeth Clark Horne
DURHAM — Mrs. Queenie Elizabeth Clark Horne, 94, passed peacefully on July 22, 2014 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Wesley and Bertha Clark and married to the late Nathaniel L. Horne. She is survived by one son, Van Clark, Sr. (Bessie), and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at Union Baptist Church at 904 N. Roxboro St., Durham, NC on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 12-1 p.m. Funeral services entrusted to Ellis D. Jones & Sons Funeral Directors.
Margaret Rebecca Boone Smith
DURHAM — Margaret Rebecca Boone Smith, age 87, of Max Meadows, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 after an extended illness with breast cancer. She was born May 6, 1927 in Knoxville, TN to the late Clarence and Maggie Robertson Boone. Margaret was a longtime native of Durham, NC, where she attended Durham High School and was employed as a telephone operator with Verizon/GTE South for 36 years until her retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Durham where she taught Sunday School and gladly carried many ladies to their obligations and appointments. Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and cooking for others. She loved watching the Food Network channel. She maintained her sense of humor and lived by the Optimist Creed even in her final days. Margaret will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Smith, Sr., brothers, Clarence, Robert, and J.W., and a sister, Helen Holder.
She is survived by her only son, John R. Smith, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Cathy Gravley Smith; two cherished grandchildren, Lyndsay and Jared of Max Meadows, VA; a wonderful brother, John Boone of Canton, NC. Several treasured nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Reverend Al Sholar will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Hospice of Southwest Virginia, WCCH and Carrington Place Pace Unit of Wytheville for all the care and affection shown to Margaret during her illness. A special thank you to Nancy Rose, caregiver, and loving friend. Thank you for all of your kindness and caring ways. Eleanor Murray Fowler
CREEDMOOR — Eleanor Murray Fowler, 76, a lifetime resident of Granville County passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at her home.
A native of Granville County, the widow of Carlton Bryant Fowler and the daughter of the late Milton Lee Murray. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor and retired as a finance director for the City of Creedmoor. She was active in the First Baptist Church Food Ministry, Creedmoor’s music festival, parades, Fourth of July festival, South Granville Athletic Association, Lion’s Club in Creedmoor and was a Facilitator for Leadership Granville. She was on the board of the Granville County Historical Society and the Granville County Library system, Secretary and Treasurer of the Granville County Chamber of Commerce, and involved with the Granville County Tourism Development Authority and Recreation Advisory Committee.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor by Rev. Jim Shelley, Jr. and Rev. David Richardson. Burial will be in Bullock Cemetery in Stem.
Surviving are her mother, Lillian Tillotson Smith of Creedmoor; two sons, David N. Fowler of Durham, Donald L. Fowler (Kara) of Durham; a brother, Robert F. Murray (Sherrill) of Creedmoor; five grandchildren, Kristen, Kelley, Kalyn, Carl and Sophie Fowler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, William L. Fowler, Johnnie W. Fowler and Carlton L. Fowler.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 12:30-2:00 P.M. prior to the service at First Baptist Church in Creedmoor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Creedmoor Food Ministry or to South Granville Athletic Association.
