Phyllis S. Beasley
DURHAM — Funeral services for Phyllis S. Beasley will be held Friday, July 25, at 12 noon at Fisher Funeral Parlor. The family visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
Survivors include daughter, Crystal Nicole Harrington; two sons, Roger Beasley and Christopher Beasley; a sister, Donna Totten (David); two brothers, Anthony Beasley and Samuel Beasley (Joyce); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Edward L. Brown, Jr.
DURHAM — Retired SGT Edward L. Brown, Jr., 73, departed his life on July 21, 2014 at VA Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Smith Brown; four daughters; two sons; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.
A viewing will be held at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home on Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 pm and funeral services will be Saturday at Bell Yeager Free Will Baptist Church, 128 East Cornwallis Rd., at 1:00 pm.

Plydene Devorah Staton Johnson
DURHAM — Plydene Devorah Staton Johnson, 78, of Durham, NC passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Duke Hospital. She was born in Marshville, NC to Raney Walter Staton and Esker Bivens Staton.
She is survived by her spouse, David Johnson of Durham, NC; one surviving sister Na'Seema Muhammad of Rochester, NY; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Staton (Billie) of Wingate, NC and Mildred Staton (Willie) of Marshville, NC; her children, Gwendolyn Johnson and Joyce Johnson Jordan of Durham, NC, David L. Johnson, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Timothy R. Johnson of Durham, NC and Anthony Johnson, of Granville County, NC; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The visitation will be held at Burthey Funeral Chapel, 1510 Fayetteville St., 27707 from 6-7pm on Friday, July 25, 2014. The Homegoing Service will be held at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, 531 S. Roxboro St. 27701 at 1pm, Saturday, July 26, 2014. Burial will follow at Markham Memorial Gardens.
Nannie Carlene Nance Potts
DURHAM — Mrs. Nannie Carlene Nance Potts, 95 of Durham died on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. She was the daughter of the late John Jackson Nance and Jennie Lee Jacobs Nance. She loved keeping children and a clean house. She was a member of Layman's Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Freddie Newton Crabtree and Otho Potts, son, Douglas Newton Crabtree.
She is survived by two daughters, Hilda Crabtree Hardiman (Landon) of Durham; Doris Crabtree Gooch (Carlton) of Durham; two step-daughters, Carolyn Potts Holland (Charles) of Hendersonville, NC; and Kitty Ann Potts Gilliam (Gerald) of Kearnersville, NC; eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Terry Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
Michael James Rankin
DURHAM — Michael James Rankin, 40, of Durham, victim of a hit-and-run, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014.
He was born to the late James and Maria Rankin, May 19, 1974, in Toms River, NJ. Mike graduated from Orlando Culinary Academy in 2009, after proudly serving his country in the United States Navy.
Mike was a passionate chef, loyal to enlightening the palate of every person he met. A dedicated fishermen and hunter, Mike loved spending his free time enjoying the great outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Katrina, sisters Eileen Rankin, Karen Rankin, Wendy Packer, nieces Jennifer King, Lauren Staley, Megan Kreder, Caitlyn Packer, and nephews Neal Packer, Joshua Packer and Jacob Packer.
The family will be holding a private celebration of his life at one of his favorite fishing locations.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent in his name to Good Shepherd Center in Wilmington, NC.
HILLSBOROUGH — Don Wolfe, 75, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Brookshire Nursing Center. He was born in Alexandria, VA, son of the late Margaret Elizabeth Donald Hoffman.
Mr. Wolfe is survived by his wife, Senie Wolfe; daughter, Tammy Conky; step-sons, Lucky Simmons (Lynn), Bernie Simmons (Sylvia); and sister, Judy Winner (Richard).
