DURHAM — Ms. Brittney Cobb, 23, passed on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. She was predeceased by her father, Mr. Nelson Cobb.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her mother Ms. Deneen Cobb, a son Marley Paschall, daughter Sabriah Cobb, brothers Nelson Cobb, Jr., Brandon Cobb, Jabril Wiley, sister Tyniesha Cobb and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ludae Cameron.
Services will be Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Scarborough and Hargett Memorial Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be expressed at Scarboroughandhargettfh.com.
Betty Ferrell Youngs Curtis
DURHAM — Betty Ferrell Youngs Curtis, 86, went to her eternal home on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from the PruittHealth Hospice (Carolina Point) surrounded by her family and numerous friends. She was born in Durham to the late Rufus F. Ferrell, Sr. and the late Ora Walker Ferrell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, William Erwin Ferrell, Rufus F. Ferrell, Jr. and Reverend Norman R. Ferrell; sisters, Annie Lois Ferrell Cooper, Ora Ethel Ferrell Wallace; first husband, Reverend Paul Youngs; and second husband, George Curtis.
Mrs. Curtis is survived by brothers, Reverend Ernest H. Ferrell and wife, Ann of Durham, Reverend Arthur Kenneth of Elberton, GA; step-son, Douglas Youngs and wife, Linda of Glendale, AZ; granddaughters, Wendy Gebo of Glendale, AZ, Lisa Eggebrecht of Goodyear, AZ; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Betty was a member of the Edgewood Baptist Church in Durham. She grew up in West Durham and from an early age became actively involved in Grey Stone Baptist Church along with the other members of her family. She came to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and dedicated her life to service in and through the life of her local church, and in her adult life through her denomination. Through her writing and teaching she touched many lives for the cause of Christ.
Betty received her education in the Durham City Schools, graduating from Durham High School in the Class of 1946. She received her A.A. from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, received her B.S. from George Peabody College for Teachers (now Peabody of Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, TN, completed Graduate Studies at Columbia University Teachers College in New York City, and received her M.A. from Arizona State University of Tempe, AZ.
She had been previously employed by Duke University, Ridgecrest Baptist Church Assembly, First Baptist Church, Baptist State Convention of NC, Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville, TN. Mrs. Curtis was a member of Women in Communications, Southwest Writer’s Conference, Phoenix Press Club and International Association of Business Communicators.
Mrs. Curtis lived a full, happy, productive life. Always optimistic about all that life had to offer. She was determined to leave this world a better place and always worked diligently to accomplish that goal. She loved people and demonstrated it by her generous spirit of giving back.
The family wishes to expressed their sincere appreciation for the care and love shown to our loved one by the staff and administration of Carolina Point, and the doctors, nurses and staff of Duke Hospital over the past two years.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham officiated by Pastor David Trump, Rev. Jimmy Bland and Rev. Jack Moody. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Clements Funeral Home.

Liston Gore Sr.
DURHAM — Liston Gore Sr., 91, exchanged this life for eternity on July 16, 2014, two days after reaching his 91st birthday.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Liston Gore, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory a wife of 64 years, Annie Gore; three daughters; one son; one sister; one sister-in-law; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home from noon-7pm on Sunday.
On Monday, there will be family visitation at 11am, followed by funeral at 12noon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Durham.

DURHAM — Mrs. Beart Truitt, Community Activist, was welcomed to Glory on July 10th, 2014 at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her cherished oldest son and leaves to treasure 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors, friends and extended family at Union Baptist Church, 904 N. Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27701 on Friday, July 18th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Mrs. Truitt's Homecoming Celebration will convene at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 19th at Union Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Hawkins Cemetery, Franklinton, NC.

Susan Anne Williams Estess
HILLSBOROUGH — Mrs. Susan Anne Williams Estess, 64, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mozelle Williams. She graduated from Orange High School in the Class of 1967.
Surviving are her husband, Willis Nelson Estess, Jr., three aunts, Louise W. Garrard, Ruth W. Willett, and Grace W. Simmons, and cousins.
The service will be held 4 PM Sunday in Walker’s Funeral Home Chapel following visitation 3-4 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lineberger Cancer Center, 450 West Dr., Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
