Mamye Lyon Hilton
DURHAM — Graveside rites for Mrs. Mamye Lyon Hilton will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at Beechwood Cemetery.
Survivors include husband, A.K. Hilton Jr.; daughters, Elaine Hilton, Sharon Hilton; sister, Ida L. Barnes; brother, Joe Nathan Lyon; special niece, Anita "Tessa" Barnes Rogers (Cedric).

Henry R. (Rusty) Jobe
DURHAM — Henry R. (Rusty) Jobe, 91, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, January 6 in Durham. He was born in Mebane, attended Burlington High School and graduated from North Carolina State University in Chemical Engineering. He served in China during WWII in the US Army. He married his wife of 62 years, Sylvia Shellenberger, during the war.
After the war, Mr. Jobe joined Merck and in 1960 he went to India as technical adviser for the installation of a Streptomycin plant. In 1962 he joined the international division of Merck and continued to live in India and eventually 11 countries (Asia, the Middle East, Europe and South America) during his career.
After retirement, the Jobes settled in Southern Pines where he was an active member of the community, volunteering with the schools, serving on the boards of two charter schools and participating in service organizations. The Jobes won distinction from the governor of NC as “volunteers of the year” for their service to the community.
Over the recent Christmas holiday with his family, he expressed his gratitude for a full and wonderful life. (Full details are available in his memoir, Rusty Jobe's Small World on Lulu.com). He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life and as a life-long learner.
He is survived by daughters, Holly Jobe of Flourtown, Pa.; Kate Jobe and her husband, Joseph Goodbread of Portland, Oregon; Hildy Lindsey and her husband, John of Durham; two grandchildren, Sloan Lindsey of Vienna, Austria, and Brian Lindsey of Columbia, SC; one great granddaughter, Fraya of Columbia, SC.
A private celebration of his life for family and close friends was held in Durham on January 12.
Dolores Simone Soto
DURHAM — Dolores Simone Soto passed on January 12, 2013.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 23, at 12 noon at Bell Yeager Free Will Baptist Church, 128 East Cornwallis Rd., Durham, and the wake will be today, January 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, 2502 NC Highway 55.
Paul Austin Strobel
DURHAM — Paul A Strobel of Durham died 1/19/13. He was born Nov 9, 1955 in Grand Island Nebraska. He lived in Durham for most of his life except for six months in Munich Germany when he was eight and one year in Leister England when he was 16. Paul attended Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC. Paul was a newspaper carrier for the Durham Sun first on bicycle and then by car. Paul was a longtime member of Watts Street Baptist Church.
Mr. Strobel was preceded in death by his parents, Howard A Strobel and Shirley H Strobel. Survivors include his brother, Gary D Strobel and wife, Sarah of Mooresville; and his sister, Lynn S Helgeson and husband, Steve of Roanoke, Va.
His funeral will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, 1/24 at Watts Street Baptist Church, 800 Watts St., Durham. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Threshold Clubhouse, PO Box 11706, Durham, NC 27703.
George Talmadge Thorne
DURHAM — Funeral services for George Talmadge Thorne, 86, who passed Saturday, January 19th, will be held Thursday, January 24th at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2438 S. Alston Ave. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Services will start at 1 p.m. The burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery. The family will be at 1215 Elmira St.

DURHAM - Funeral services for Anna Vivian Tucker, 85, who passed Thursday, January 17th, will be held Thursday, January 24th at the Scarborough & Hargett Memorial Chapel, 923-B Old Fayetteville St. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Services will start at 1 p.m. The burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery. Bernice Davis Fearrington

CHAPEL HILL — Mrs. Bernice Davis Fearrington was called home on Saturday, January 19th, 2013.
Born in Durham on December 19th 1929, she is the widower of Charlie N. Fearrington. She is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Davis Walker of Newark, NJ; son, Dwight Omar Fearrington of Charlotte; two daughters, Sharon Fearrington Gore of Durham and Tina Delaine Singletary of Chapel Hill. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. We love you and you will be missed!
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph CME Church. Family visitation 30 minutes prior to the funeral at the church. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.

Grace E. Shumway Hoyler
EFLAND — Grace E. Shumway Hoyler, 89, passed away at home in Efland. She was born in NYC and moved to NC at age 48. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Hoyler; and her sons, Edward C. Hoyler and Steven Hoyler.
Mrs. Hoyler is survived by daughters, Janice E. Partington of Efland, Nancy (Joe) Tubiolo of Efland, Diane (Jon) Faucette of Hillsborough; son, Christopher (Teresa) Hoyler of Graham; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 23, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Efland with Pastor Jon Faucette officiating. Visitation will be at the home of Nancy and Joe Tubiolo on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
