Basil Randolph “Randy” Bassett
DURHAM - Basil Randolph “Randy” Bassett, son of Basil Wallace and Barbara Sparrow Bassett of Efland died Monday afternoon, December 2, at his home.
Born November 27, 1957, in Durham, Randy attended Jordan High School and Council Christian Academy. He was employed with Public Service Company for a number of years.
Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Andre Bassett.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Randy Wallace Bassett of Princeton, N.J.; his sister, Sharon Autry and husband Jerry; his brother, Rick Whitfield and wife Terry; and his long-time companion, Robin Russ, who faithfully and lovingly cared for him during his illness.
A private service will be held at a later date.

DURHAM - Mr. Alvin Bryant, 87, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit. He was born in Durham County to the late Posey Lester Bryant and Annie Faulkner Bryant. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Thomas Eugene, Julian Charles, Posey Leon, Alvesta, George Watts, William Gray, and his twin, Calvin.
He was a graduate of Durham High School (Class of 1944) and UNC-CH Pharmacy School (Class of 1951). Mr. Bryant owned The Prescription Shop, Al’s Pharmacy and Al’s Holloway Street Pharmacy. He served along with his 6 brothers during WWII. He was in the U.S. Army, 69th Infantry, receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Artillery Medal. He was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Trustee. He was a member of the Fighting 69th Infantry, Durham Lodge 352, Durham York Rite, VFW, Sudan Shriners, and American Legion.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Ella Bradshaw Bryant; son, Ronald Alvin Bryant (Peggy); daughter, Gloria Bryant Brown (Buddy); son, Johnnie J. Bryant; daughter, Sheila Eleanor Bryant; grandchildren, Kyle Brown (Stefani), Kirkland Brown (Lindsay), Kellie Linna (Troy), Sterling Bryant, Katelyn Sparrow, Chadwick Bryant; great grandchildren, Kailey Neville Brown, Kirkland Davis Brown, Eliza Grace Brown, Christopher Houston Huff, Lane Edward Huff; brother, Johnnie Mack Bryant; brother-in-law, Ray Poole; sister-in-laws, Rose Simpson (Tim), Lena Bryant; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday at Clements Funeral Chapel with Rev. Guy Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Eric Burmahl and Rev. Virgil Nolen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Jillian (Jill) Ashanti Byrd
DURHAM - Jillian (Jill) Ashanti Byrd, daughter of William J. and Precious Worth Byrd of Laurinburg, N.C., and the late Linda Holland Byrd of Carrboro, N.C., was born July 17, 1982. She departed for her Heavenly home on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
Jill graduated from Scotland High School, Laurinburg, N.C., and North Carolina Central University, Durham, N.C., in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Art degree in Social Work. She was matriculating at Capella University completing a Master of Public Administration in December 2013.
Jill is survived by her father, William J. Byrd (Precious) and three brothers, DeAngelo, Langston, and Chancellor. Family will be receiving visitors Friday, December 6, 6-8 p.m., at 505 Weeping Willow Drive, Durham, N.C. 27704. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2 p.m. at Markham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3630 Old Chapel Hill Road, Durham, N.C. 27707. Arrangements are being handled by Fisher Funeral Parlor.
Donna Lynn Dunn
DURHAM - Lynn, 65, departed this life on Tues., Dec. 3, at Duke Regional Hospital. She is survived by her children, Tammy Header, Michael Fisher, Angela Reagan & Scott Lea; brothers, Reggie Dunn (Nancy), Craig Dunn, Eric Dunn (Lisa); sisters, Anne Andrews (George), Renee Dunn (Oral), Paula Edwards (Terry); 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, 3864 Guess Road, Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives at 2214 Hillandale Road after the service.
Hortense Jones Ramsey
OXFORD — Hortense Jones Ramsey, 86, a lifetime resident of Granville County, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at her home.
A native of Granville County and the daughter of the late James Thomas Jones and Nannie Sue Wiles, she was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are her children, Bill Ramsey (Julia), Joyce R. Ellington, Jerry V. Ramsey (Lisa) and Kathy R. Williams (Lyn), all of Oxford; three granddaughters; three grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, McLean “Mac” Ramsey; a sister, Ruth Ellis; and a brother, Brodie Jones, Sr.

Ruth Lisenby Moore
CAMDEN, S.C. — A funeral service to celebrate the life of Ruth Lisenby Moore, 91, of Camden, S.C., will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Hermitage Baptist Church in Camden. Rev. Jason Fletcher and Rev. Buster Morris will officiate. Burial will follow in Malvern Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Camden. The family will receive friends at noon in the fellowship hall at Hermitage, one hour prior to the funeral service. Ruth Lisenby Moore, widow of Clarence E. Moore, died, Tuesday, December 3, 2013. She was born in Chesterfield, S.C., the daughter of the late Niven L. and Bessie Rivers Lisenby. She was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her daughters, Cherrie M. Knight of Durham, N.C., and Kaye M. Quillian of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sons, Dennis E. Moore of Thaxton, Va., and B. Ray Moore of Watervliet, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her son, Ronnie T. Moore; 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
