Bobby (Bob) Lynn Cunningham

DURHAM — Bobby (Bob) Lynn Cunningham, 82, formerly of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Duke Medical Center with his family by his side.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a private pilot and enjoyed restoring old tractors. He was a member of Yates Baptist Church in Durham and was a former member of the Durham Lions Club for many years.

He is survived by his daughter Tammi C. Williams and husband Gary of Oxford, three grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Williams of Oxford and Adam Cunningham of Apex, a brother, Joe Cunningham and a sister Sue Banks, both of Kentucky. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Loretta Cunningham and his son, David Cunningham.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 11th 2013 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford from 11:00-12:00PM for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Yates Baptist Church, 2819 Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC 27707.

Helen Price McKinney

DURHAM - Ms. Helen Price McKinney, 77, departed her life on October 5, 2013. She is survived by seven children, five sisters and two brothers, one God daughter, 23 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a loving, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Services will be at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with visitation at 1.



Hubert Irwin McMannen

DURHAM - Hubert Irwin McMannen, age 84, died Friday, October 4, in his Durham home. A Durham native, Hubert was born to the late George T. and Audrey Hamlett McMannen. He worked for 30 years at Liggett Myers as a pipefitter and was a long-time member of Angier Ave. Baptist Church and the Cabin Sunday School class where he had a 60 year association.

Hubert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Nancy A. McMannen of Durham, NC; his son, Tim McMannen and wife, Lynne, of Durham; his daughter, Tonya Mauldin of Franklinton, NC; three brothers, Dr. Lewis McMannen and wife, Jan, of Ft. Myers, FL, Bobby McMannen and wife, Louise, of Winston-Salem, NC, Archie McMannen and wife, Pat, of Boone, NC; sister, Betty Tyson and husband, Harvey, of Henderson. NC; five grandchildren, Lindsay and Caitlin McMannen, April Oakley and husband, Mark, Jayme and Winston Mauldin; and one great-grandson, Tucker Oakley. He was preceded in death by his brother, George T. McMannen.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 8, from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham with the Rev. James Baggett presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may visit Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.

Members of the Cabin Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Catherine L. Stephens

DURHAM - Mrs. Catherine L. Stephens was born September 23, 1923 and passed on September 30, 2013. She is survived by seven children and was preceeded in death by her husband, John A. Stephens and her parents, Benjamin and Hattie Dumas. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at The United House of Prayer For All People, 505 Holloway Street, Durham, N.C. Viewing will be held at 4:00 P.M. with the funeral at 5:00 P.M.




Jean E. Curtis

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Jean Curtis, born Jan. 5, 1928, passed away October 3, 2013 after a short illness. Jean was born to Powell Shannon Elswick and Emma Melissa Elswick in Richlands, Virginia. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Lynchburg College and a Master's in Education from William and Mary. Jean was a teacher in the Newport News school system from 1957–1989 and taught at Deer Park, Lee Hall, and Reservoir. She was an enthusiastic bridge and mah-jongg player, a gifted pianist, and an avid reader. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where she played the organ and sang in the choir, among other activities.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Douglas C. Curtis.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Ronald (Ann) Elswick of Radford, Virginia; and her children, Barry (Jeanmarie) Curtis of Durham, North Carolina, Mark (Nancy) Curtis of Elkton, Virginia, and Pam (Eric) Davidson of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Jean also leaves grandchildren, Simon (Despina) Curtis, Hannah Curtis, Kaylee Curtis, and Jacob Curtis, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

The visitation will be held at 11 on Tuesday, October 8, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Newport News, with a service to follow at 1. There will be a private interment after the service.
