Ellen Poole Bridges
DURHAM — Ellen Poole Bridges, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 8, 2014. She passed away at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida. Ellen was born April 30, 1928 in Durham to Willie Lee Poole and Annie Ellis Poole. Ms. Bridges was a graduate of Durham High School in 1946. She worked for CCB Bank until moving to Florida in 1968.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Winton Poole, and her husband, W.H. "Bill" Bridges.
Surviving are one son, Chris Bridges, wife, Teresa, and two grandsons, Jamie and Tony of Florida; two sisters, Hilda Holtzclaw of Morristown, Tennessee, Doris Jones (Dallas), of Durham; sister-in-law, Janet Poole of Charlotte; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Lillie C. Higgins
DURHAM — Lillie C. Higgins, 82, departed her life on May 7, 2014.
She leaves behind seven children, twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 16, at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home at 1:00 pm and funeral services at 2:00 pm.
Arrangements are entrusted to Holloway Memorial Funeral Home.

Sislyn Whitely
DURHAM — Sislyn "Rita" Whitely, 72, departed this life on Friday, May 9, 2014. Her service will be held at 12pm on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Bell Yeager FWB Church, 128 Cornwallis St. Interment will follow in Markham Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11am-12pm at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service. There is a public viewing on Wednesday at Burthey Chapel from 5-7pm.
She leaves behind one daughter, three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, four sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


Sherrie Lynn Mooney
CHAPEL HILL — Sherrie Lynn Mooney went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 9, 2014. She is survived by her wonderful loving husband of 21 years Jeff Mooney, sister Lucy and husband Skippy Godfrey, sister Jenny and husband Bill Golat, brother Bobby and wife Tamar Horton, brother Tom and Karen Godwin, brother in-law Preston Mooney, sister in-law Vicki and husband Mike Holleman, and father in-law Andy Mooney. She was preceded in her death by her parents, Brodie and Norma Horton, and mother-in-law, Alice Mooney.
Sherrie was adored by her three nephews and two nieces, Ryan and wife Tammy Holleman, Chase Holleman, Christian Holleman and fiancée Kamile Smith, Anna and husband Daniel Corbin, and Amy Godwin, as well as four great-nieces, Karli Holleman, Emma Corbin, Lane Corbin, and Harper Corbin.
Sherrie was born August 22nd 1959, in Chatham County. She grew up in the Pittsboro and Chapel Hill Community. She graduated from Northwood High School. Sherrie had worked for the Orange Sherriff’s Department and University of North Carolina. Sherrie retired from UNC Hospital of Chapel Hill.
Sherrie had spent more than 20 years volunteering in Emergency Services in Orange and Chatham County. She was a former member of Chatham County Rescue Squad, Orange County Rescue Squad and current member of the White Cross Vol. Fire Department in Chapel Hill NC.
Aside from her devotion to her family, Sherrie loved helping people old and young. Sherrie was part of raising and caring for a countless number of children and was a mother to so many.
Arrangements for Sherrie Mooney: Visitation will be at Antioch Baptist Church Tuesday, May 13th from 6-8 pm located 1707 White Cross Road in Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Celebration of her life will be Wednesday, May 14th at 11am at Antioch Baptist Church located 1707 White Cross Road in Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
The family will graciously accept flowers or donations made in Sherrie’s name to Susan G. Komen Fund, Antioch Baptist Church or White Cross Fire Department.


Norma Large Hollingsworth
TIGER, Ga. — Norma Large Hollingsworth, 93, of Tiger, GA, (previously Durham & Asheboro, NC) passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014. Her husband, Harry D. Hollingsworth, a former Herald-Sun editor, predeceased her.
Norma is survived by two brothers; three children, Harry Hollingsworth, Luther Hollingsworth and Lee Hollingsworth Berger; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on May 17 at 4pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be prior to the service at 2:30pm.
