Kelvin Ramon "Breeze" Leathers Sr.
DURHAM - Kelvin Ramon "Breeze" Leathers Sr., 41, departed this life on April 30, 2013. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Leathers; three children, KeShaunna, Kelvin Ramon Jr. and Kenyon Lawrence; two sisters, Jacqueline and Jalisa; a brother, Joseph; two nieces, a nephew and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, 1415 Holloway Street, Durham, on May 7, 2013 visitation at 12 p.m. and services at 1 p.m.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Holloway Memorial Funeral Home Inc.


Oscar Sweany Ryder
DURHAM - Oscar Sweany Ryder, age 85, died peacefully at his Durham residence on Friday, May 3, 2013. A native of Durham, Mr. Ryder was born to the late William H. and Maude Proctor Ryder. Mr. Ryder spent his entire career in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during three wars: WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Ryder was preceded in death by his loving wife, Yoshiko Ryder.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Maplewood Cemetery, Section 19, with the Rev. Forest M. Gale Jr. presiding. Friends may visit at the cemetery following the service.

Gertie Rhodes Hobgood
FRANKLINTON — Gertie Rhodes Hobgood, 85, a longtime resident of Durham County passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
A native of Johnston County, the widow of Joel Walker Hobgood and the daughter of the late John Robert and Edith Powell Rhodes, she was of the Christian faith, worked at Duke University for several years and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6th, 2013 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by Rev. Johnny Hewett. Burial will be in the O’Briant-Hobgood Family Cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris Hobgood Wrenn of Hillsborough, Beth Hobgood Weddle (Johnny Sr.) of Franklinton; three sons, William B. Hobgood of Franklinton, Charles E. Hobgood (Debra) of Henderson, Michael J. Hobgood of Franklinton; two sisters, Bessie R. Dixon of Kentucky, Edith R. Beatem of Hillsborough; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth R. Hobgood; and five brothers.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, May 5th, 2013 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and, at other times, at the home of her daughter, Beth Weddle.
