Jerome "Roni" Brown
DURHAM — Jerome "Roni" Brown, 64, departed his earthly life on July 3, 2014 surrounded by his children.
He leaves behind one daughter, six sons, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister and two brothers.
The family visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home and funeral service on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm. at Lakeview Baptist Church.

John W. “Jack” Godkin, Sr.
DURHAM — John W. “Jack” Godkin, Sr., 69, died Saturday, July 5, 2014. Jack was born May 6, 1945 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to the late Willard Joseph and Ellen Kotz Godkin. He retired in 1996, after 25 years, from Coty division of Pfizer Inc. Jack was an avid traveler, scuba diver, snow skier,a connoisseur of coffee, and master of “The Wine and Cheese.”
Surviving are: his wife of 6 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Sheely Godkin of Durham; two sons, John W. Godkin Jr. and wife, Susan of Durham, Jeffrey M. Godkin and wife, Christy of Davidson; a daughter, Jennifer G. Lewis and husband, Kermit of Sanford; six grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, William, Paul, Madeline and James; a brother, Dr. James D. Godkin and wife, Donna of Tennessee; a sister, Bonnie Zinck and husband, James of Virginia.
The family will be present 6-8 PM Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Friday at Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 South Park Dr., Durham. Bradley E. Henderson
DURHAM — Mr. Bradley E. Henderson, 87, died early Sunday at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. Mr. Henderson was born in Brookneal, Virginia, the son of the late Kenneth Eggleston Henderson and Olivia Wilson Henderson. Predeceased by his wife Frances Elder Henderson and sister Ganelle Turner.
He was employed by Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company as the Director of International Leaf. With Liggett & Myers Brad was considered the best tobacco buyer in the world. He attended Durham High School, Wake Forest University, and was a lifelong supporter and member of the Durham High Alumni group. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons were close to his heart and he always looked out for his Deacons.
Brad was a lifetime member of Hope Valley Country Club where he was Club Champion. He won the Herald-Sun Championship, as well as many other tournaments. He was an avid golfer who loved to teach people the game of golf. HVCC flew the flag at half-mast for him the day of his death. He had a great sense of humor, was fiercely loyal, and was generous to a fault. He was a great friend and storyteller and never forgot a name until the day he died. He was blessed to have many devoted friends that visited him often.
The Henderson family would like to thank Dr. Anne Phelps and her staff at Duke Signature Care for her loving medical assistance over the years. We would also like to express thanks to Wynwood of Chapel Hill for making Daddy’s last two years so pleasant. He was so happy and well cared for and we appreciate your staff and all their help. Lastly, Always Best Care caregivers were wonderful and we would especially like to thank Stephanie Gregory, Inessa Orlopa and Veronica Glover.
Mr. Henderson is survived by 3 children, Gayle Henderson Merrill of Durham, NC, Bradley Eggleston Henderson, Jr. of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Holly Henderson Ridgell of Greenville, SC. He was a proud grandfather of Kendall Henderson, Lindsey Henderson, Grayson Henderson, Wilson Herlong, Spencer Herlong, Kenneth Ridgell and Daniel Ridgell. Surviving nieces Liv Turner Stephens, Suzan Turner Brown, Patsy Turner DiNome.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 11, at 12 at Howerton Bryan Funeral home. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Grandsons are the casket bearers. The family will receive friends at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home from 10 to 11:45.
No flowers; contributions should be made to the Oxford Home for Boys, or Durham Rescue Mission.

Emily Anne Stephenson Moorefield
DURHAM — Emily Anne Stephenson Moorefield passed away on July 5, 2014, at her home in Durham. She was born in Durham on October 2, 1976 to Timothy L. Stephenson and Sally Anne Mahoney Horton. She graduated from Southern High School in Durham, and found great pleasure as a floral designer.
She is survived by her mother, Sally Horton of Durham; father, Timothy Stephenson and step-mother, Debra Stephenson of VA; brothers Christopher Michael Stephenson of Wichita, KS, and Jared Martin Stephenson of Durham, NC; nephew Spencer Stephenson, and niece Anna Marie Stephenson.
A memorial service will be held at Gorman Baptist Church, 3316 E. Geer St., Durham, at 6pm on Thursday, July 10, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SPCA. Online condolences may be expressed on her obituary page at www.cremnc.com.
Mark Laurence Wilbur
DURHAM — Mark Laurence Wilbur, 53, died Wednesday, July 2, at home following a long illness. Mark was born February 23, 1961 in Durham, and was a graduate of Hillside High School and Gettysburg College, where he was in the Sigma Nu fraternity. He served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, and later as an agent in the United States Drug Enforcement Administration in Los Angeles.
Mark is survived by his loving family: his parents, Robert and Jeanne; brother Ralph; sisters Martha, Ellen, Margaret, and Lenore (Plymire); brother-in-law Fleet Plymire; nieces Hailey and Mason Plymire; and nephew Fleet Plymire. He will be very much missed by all.
Some of Mark’s most outstanding qualities were courage, kindness, generosity, and love for animals. He leaves in his family’s care: rescue dogs Ollie and Bindi, and rescue cats Minki, Chloe, and Henri. Bertha H. Davis
HILLSBOROUGH — Mrs. Bertha H. Davis, 93, passed away July 8, 2014 at Duke Regional Hospital. Mrs. Davis was a lifelong resident of Orange County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Davis, and a brother, Milton Adams.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her two daughters, Betty Mayes and husband Arlo of Stevensville, MT and Doris Painter and her companion Lynwood (Buddy) Wheeley of Hillsborough; one son, William Davis and wife Hilda of Hillsborough; one sister, Florence Austin of Hillsborough; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A Graveside Service will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Hillsborough Town Cemetery by Pastor David Bollick. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home in Hillsborough Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

James Joseph (Jim) Mullen
CHAPEL HILL — Jim Mullen, 91, of Chapel Hill, died peacefully May 26, 2014 at UNC Hospitals with his family at his side. Jim was a retired professor from the UNC-CH School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he founded the Advertising program in 1959.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Carolina Meadows. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Dunham in the Fairways Gallery.
Jim is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Muir Mullen, and their four children and spouses, Martha Haswell (Joel), Jack Mullen (Fran Friday), Bill Mullen, and Ken Mullen (Beth), all of Chapel Hill. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ross Haswell, Miranda Shook, Elaine Haswell, Walker Mullen, Mark Mullen, and one great-grandchild, Wiley Shook.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Jim Mullen Scholarship Fund at the UNC-CH School of Journalism and Mass Communication, to the Inter-faith Council for Social Service, or to a charity of your choice.
Darryl Lamont Perry
HILLSBOROUGH — Funeral Services for Mr. Darryl Lamont Perry (24) of Hillsborough, NC, will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 pm from Highway House of Prayer Church. The family will meet with their friends 30 min. before the service.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Janice W. Perry, 1 brother, Mr. Rodrick Platt, 2 sisters, Ms. Jasmine Platt, Ms. Wendy Powell, mother, Mrs. Rosa Perry, grandparents, Rev. James and Rev. Myrtle Perry, and a host of other relatives and friends.

HILLSBOROUGH — James Edward Potter, 81, of Hillsborough, NC died on Thursday, July 3, 2014.
Funeral will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at Lipscomb Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Family visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. before service.
Survivors are wife, Elvira Potter; son, James Potter Jr. (Tina); grandchild, Jammie Eva Potter; sister, Romiller Parker; and sister-in-law, Lucy Evans Hayes.

Karen Lee Tinker
CHAPEL HILL — Karen Lee Tinker went Home, Saturday, June 28, 2014. Karen passed away peacefully at her home after a 7-year battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her husband and children. She was born January 16, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Those left to treasure Karen’s memory are Terry, her husband of 59 years, her children Terrance Jr., and wife Alison, Tammy Collins and her husband Bobbie, Timothy and his wife Carole, and Karen Whittemore and husband Derek; seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her time with family and friends. Those who knew Karen remember her kindness and love, her inspiring smile, laugh and humor. She was truly a beautiful person and will be greatly missed by many and forgotten by none who knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be held to honor her life at St. Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10am.

Miriam Blake Trageser
CHAPEL HILL — Miriam Blake Trageser, 94, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 7, 2014. A lifelong resident of Chapel Hill, NC, she was the daughter of the late Flossie Mann and William Blake. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Paul Joseph Trageser. Miriam was born in Chatham County and graduated from Pittsboro High School, class of 1938, and went on to attend Women’s College in Greensboro, NC. Before becoming a wife and mother, she was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC and later was a sales associate for Talbot’s clothing store until the age of 87. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Church for many years.
Miriam was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a gentle spirit and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Paul Joseph Trageser, Jr. (June), Pittsboro, NC, and four daughters, Lynne Birmingham (Matthew), Windsor, VT, Susan Moody (Richard), Chapel Hill, NC, Jean Bohn (Raymond), Durham, NC and Dana Aspell (Brian) Woodstock, VT, 13 adoring grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 10 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.

ATLANTA — Brenda Harper Boyd of Atlanta, Georgia died July 3, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Arthur D. Crotzer; her father, James T. Harper of Clarksville, TN; her sister, Linda Lancaster of Atlanta, GA; her step-daughters, Kathryn Hicks of Derby, England, and Rebecca Copelin of Norman, OK; her brother, Lester Ellis, Jr; and sisters, Tamy Ellis, Luanne Baggett, and Saundra Palmer, all of Clarksville, TN. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Ellis. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Clarksville, TN at the Freedom Park Center in Liberty Park.
