Paul Michael Atkins
DURHAM — Paul Michael Atkins, age 58 of 5115 Carolwood Lane, Durham, NC, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, July 6th. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Teri, three sons, Chris (Sam), Nic (Jo and Paul's buddy Brody), and Bryan; sister, Rachael Brady (Jim), brother Bill Atkins (Paula). He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Margaret Atkins.
He grew up in Apex, NC and attended Apex High School and Wake Tech. He was owner of Paul Atkins & Associates and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he had served as deacon.
Paul loved his wife, his boys, his cats and dog and would talk to them for hours, no response needed. He was an avid sports fan, diehard Duke fan and was there to cheer them on through the good and bad days. He was one of the founders of Woodcroft Athletic Association and coached Little League sports for many years and was also a volunteer football coach for Jordan High School.
Anyone who knew him will always remember his outlandish personality, his unique laugh, and how proud he was of his wife and kids.
Visitation will be at Walker's Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 8th, from 7-9pm.
The funeral will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 9th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers donations to Jordan High School Athletics would be appreciated. Details will be available soon at Walker's Funeral Home and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC.

Gary Harrington
DURHAM — Gary Harrington, 56, departed his life on July 4, 2014 at Duke Medicine Pavilion.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Renee Y. Harrington, nine children, nine grandchildren and his mother Shirley M. Covington.
A viewing will be held at Victory at Calvary Covenant Ministries, 500 N. Driver Street, Durham, NC 27703, July 10, 2014 at 11:00 am, services start at 12 noon.

Charles J. Horton
DURHAM — Mr. Charles J. Horton, 81, passed on July 3, 2014. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles E. Horton, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy M. Horton; sons, Robert, Stanley, Morris and Stephen Horton; daughters, Deborah Conrad, Stephanie (Wayne) Hewlett, Rita, Latoya and Jessica Robertson; and brothers, Walter and William Brown.
Services will takes place on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2102 S. Alston Ave., Durham, NC. Bertie L. “Skeeter” Shields, Jr.
DURHAM — Bertie L. “Skeeter” Shields, Jr., 78, died Sunday, July 6, 2014. Born December 28, 1936 to the late Bertie L. and Rosalind Copley Shields in Durham, Skeeter was a US Army veteran and worked for the City of Durham Water and Sewage Department as a surveyor.
Surviving are his wife, of 54 years, Karen D. Klement Shields of Durham; a daughter, Jody Shields Hedrick and husband, Ray of Rougemount; two grandsons, Wyatt and Coltin Hedrick.
The family will be present 6-8 PM Wednesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday at The Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham. Rev. Forest Gales will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Durham. Clara Sorrell Stallings
DURHAM — Clara Sorrell Stallings, 100, died Sunday at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. A native of Durham, she was reared in the Lowes Grove Community the daughter of the late Quinton Lee Sorrell and Betty Weatherspoon Sorrell.
Mrs. Stallings was a longtime member of Watts Street Baptist Church and the Tillman Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her son, Riley S. Stallings, Jr. (Carolyn) of Durham; three grandsons, Mark (Cindi) Stallings of Charlotte, Scott Stallings of Youngsville and Page (Elizabeth) Stallings of Charlotte; one step- granddaughter, Barbara Garman of Maryland; two great-granddaughters; two step-great-grandsons; one half-brother, Quinton Lee Sorrell, Jr. of Cary; and one half-sister, Marjorie Bounds.
She was predeceased by her husband, Riley Sherman Stallings Sr.; three brothers, Robert, John, Theron; and eight sisters, Bertha, Leah, Hazel, Lidia, Jessie Mae, Lillian, Mary and Lona.
The family sends loving thanks to Lona Ruth Kennedy and Anne and Bill Riley for their care and concerns over the years.
Private family graveside services will be held in Maplewood Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Diane Hill.

Theodis “Bud” Swinton
DURHAM — Theodis “Bud” Swinton, 64, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on July 1, 2014 of natural causes.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Durham, NC (2420 S Roxboro Street). The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm immediately following visitation with Reverend William Lucas officiating.
Theodis will be buried at 1:00 pm in the Salisbury United States National Cemetery on Friday, July 11, 2014.
The family will receive friends and extended family on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm at 703 Big Twig Lane, Durham, NC 27703. Cards and flowers may be delivered to the same address.

Bishop Harold Ivory Williams
DURHAM — It is with great sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of Bishop Harold Ivory Williams, the Senior Patriarch of the Mt. Calvary Holy Churches of America and the husband of Gospel Legend, Pastor Shirley Caesar.
There will be two Homegoing Celebrations for Bishop Williams as described below:
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 11th, 7:00 pm. Public viewing will be 12 noon to 6:00 pm.
The Homegoing Celebration will convene Saturday, July 12th, 11:00 am. Visitation will be 9:00 am - 11:00 am.

Oren Jackson Dameron, Sr.
HILLSBOROUGH — Oren Jackson Dameron, Sr., 80, died July 6, 2014 at Hock Family Pavilion. Oren was the son of the late Robert Booker Dameron and Rosa Jackson Dameron.
Oren was born in Morrisville, NC. He left school in the 9th grade to help support his parents and siblings. He eventually acquired his G.E.D. He served 9 years in the U.S Coast Guard including service during the Korean War. He made many lasting friendships with his cutter-mates of the S.S Mendota. He was a true Ole Coastie! Oren went on to become a Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration technician working at Lee Air Conditioning for many years. He carried his knowledge and expertise into the classroom with the state of North Carolina, where he worked for Vance-Granville Community College as a contract instructor for FCI in Butner.
He loved coaching his son and daughter in baseball in Hillsborough, and then in Northern Durham with NJAA. He was a mentor to many young men in Hillsborough often taking them to practices and games, as well as paying for their fees to play sports. He followed his grandsons and granddaughter while cheering them on in their sports activities. He truly had a Big Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lanum-Dameron; his daughters, Kim Watkins and husband, Richard of Hillsborough and Penni Marshall and husband, Danny of Durham; his son, Oren Jackson Dameron, Jr. of Hillsborough; his brother, Robert Dameron of Newport, TN; his sisters, Jennie Carroll of Raleigh; and Brenda Berry of Durham; his grandchildren, Kathryne Dameron, Cole Watkins, Seth Watkins, Cody Beaver and Danyel Beaver.
Oren was preceded in death by his first wife, Trudy Brisby Dameron, his brother, Nick Dameron, and his granddaughter, Megan Watkins.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with Dr. Scott Gray officiating.
Friends may visit from 6:00-8:00pm this evening at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
