Sarah Lucile Amey Malone
DURHAM — Sarah Lucile Amey Malone, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Brian Center in Durham. She was born to the late Levi and Emma Amey on November 20, 1921. Over her career she worked for United Van Lines packing household goods. She also served as a housekeeper and a health care provider for the elderly. She was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Church of Christ and also attended First Congregation Church of Christ in her later years. She was best known for her amazing sweet potato pies. Surviving Lucile are her nieces, Mary (Edward) and Eunice (Edward); great-niece, Annelyse Amey (Chris); great-nephew, Lonnie Amey; great-great-nephew and -niece, Anthony and Nia Amey; one adopted niece, Gwendolyn Claiborne; cousins, Emma Gentry, John Daye, Allen Harris, and Dwight Pettiford. She was predeceased by her sister, Burma Amey, and nephew, Edward L. Amey. The family will receive friends for viewing from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Burthey Funeral Services. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 4, 2014 at Burthey Funeral Services, officiated by Rev. Kelvin Belle. Interment will follow at Glennview Memorial Park, Durham, N.C.

Nathaniel McLaughlin Sr.
DURHAM — Memorial services for Nathaniel McLaughlin Sr., will be held Thursday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at Bell-Yeager FWB Church, 128 E. Cornwallis Rd., with the family visitation being held 30 minutes prior to the service.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry McLaughlin.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy "Dot" L. McLaughlin; one daughter, Jennifer M. McLaughlin; two sons, Nathaniel McLaughlin Jr. and Allan Smith (Dorothy); one brother; two sisters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be today from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jeffrey Leonartis McNeil
DURHAM — Jeffrey Leonartis McNeil, 55, departed his life on March 28, 2014.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah McNeil; six children; four grandchildren; one sister; and a large extended family.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at World Overcomers Christian Church, Durham, with visitation at 12:00 p.m.

Leslie Wayne Nance
DURHAM — Mr. Leslie Wayne Nance, 71, of Durham, died on Monday, March 31, 2014.
Mr. Nance was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Robert L. Nance and Betty Porter Nance. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer serving in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed with Budget Rental Cars. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Nance.
He is survived by his sister, Darlene Stewart and husband, James of Longs, S.C.; sister-in-law and caregiver, Ruby Nance of Durham; nephew, Wayne Nance; niece, Jennifer Stewart; and great-niece, Destiny Stewart.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev Jerry Hooper will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., before the service at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ruby Nance, 634 Junction Road. Beulah Shults Riley
DURHAM — Beulah Shults Riley, 84, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at her home. She was born in Newport, Tennessee to the late Oscar Shults and the late Leona Brown Shults. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sammie David Riley, and son, William J. Riley.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Bailey (Ricky) of Orange County, Nancy A. Riley of Durham, Lisa R. Riley of Orange County; son, Danny Riley (Pam) of Orange County; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Echols and the Rev. Mike Riley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Viola King Wright
DURHAM — Mrs. Viola King Wright, 93, daughter of the late Ola Bell King and Roger King, passed March 21.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Ola Bell Farrar.

William Frank Roberts
APEX — William (Bill) Frank Roberts, 65, died Sunday, March 30, 2014. He was born in Durham County to the late Frank Fuller Roberts and the late Verna Mae White Roberts.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Adrienne Roberts, and his two daughters, Sarah and Ginger of the home; a son, Brian of Apex; and sister, Peggy Wilder of Hillsborough.
He was always and will be forever "Baw" to his grandchildren, Matthew, Cameron, Alyia, Brianna, Courtney and AJ.
He loved The Lord, his family and his huge circle of friends. He never met a stranger and loved talking about the Bible and looked so forward to seeing Jesus one day. To many Bill seemed "ten feet tall and bulletproof," was never afraid to speak his mind and you always knew where you stood with him. Everyone he met was touched in one way or another. His compassion and love will be greatly missed. But his words, his legacy and his undying love will live on in our hearts and lives forever.
A memorial service will be held at New Hope Church, 7619 Fayetteville Road, Durham, NC 27713 on Friday, April 4th at 3:30pm.

Claire Hill Shaw
RALEIGH — Claire Hill Shaw, 91, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at Dan E. & Mary Louise Stewart Health Center of Springmoor in Raleigh. Mrs. Shaw was born May 21, 1922, in Youngsville, to Sandy and Hettie M. Wiggins Hill. She attended Louisburg College and Meredith College. Mrs. Shaw was a home economics teacher at Oak Grove, Southern High School and Neal Jr. High School, retiring in 1979. She was a very active member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham. Claire moved to Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh in 1995 following the death of her husband, Ben L. Shaw, in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three brothers, Vernon W. Hill, Robert C. Hill and James M. Hill.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas H. Shaw and wife, Lynne of Goldsboro, George B. Shaw and wife, Cara of Raleigh; daughter, Nelda S. Simpson and husband, Roy Edwin “Ed” of Lenoir; grandchildren, Megan Suddarth and husband, Thomas, Mark P. Shaw, all of Goldsboro; Aaron B. and Samuel F. Shaw both of Raleigh; great-grandchild, Caroline S. Suddarth.
The family will be present 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 2107 Liberty St., Durham. Reverend Tim Wheeler will preside.
