John Michael “Mike” Williams
DURHAM — John Michael “Mike” Williams, 59, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 25, 2014. He was a Facilities Maintenance Technician with the City of Durham in the Plant Engineering and Maintenance Department of Water Management for 9 years.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman and scuba diver. He was also a professional paint contractor and carpenter and always strived for excellence. He was educated in Durham County Schools and earned an Associate’s Degree in electronics from Durham Technical Institute. He joined the US Marines in 1971 and served in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1973 as a Lance Corporal. Mike was a loving son, brother, and uncle and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Rebecca J. Williams; sister, Linda Williams May and husband, Johnnie of Wilson, NC; brother, Jesse Alton Williams and wife, April of Taylors, SC; nephews, David Wayne May, Christopher Bradley Williams, Benjamin Mark Williams and his loving aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, John Wendell Williams.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1-2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Elsie Mae Ellis Dodson
HILLSBOROUGH — Mrs. Elsie Mae Ellis Dodson, age 89, a resident of Dairy Land Road, died on March 28, 2014.
Mrs. Dodson was born in Chatham County on October 24, 1924 to the late Lula Tripp Ellis and John Ellis. Elsie retired from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was also a caring mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dodson is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Edward Dodson, five brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Deborah D. Williams and her husband Forest of Pittsboro; one son, Edward Dodson and his wife Cheryl of Yanceyville; four grandchildren, Angela Dodson, Jill Williams, Jessica Williams and Kyle Williams.
Chapel services will be at 3:00PM on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the chapel of Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough and will be officiated by Rev. Dennis Seaver and Rev. Ed Dodson. Visitation will precede the funeral from 1:30PM to 2:45PM. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery.

Susan F. Schwab
CHAPEL HILL — Surrounded in her North Carolina home by her family, Susan F. Schwab passed away peacefully on March 24 from pancreatic cancer. Born August 13, 1952, she was raised in Tonawanda, New York and attended St. Amelia School and Mount Saint Mary Academy. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, Susan began a 30+-year career in information technology for health systems and higher education institutions. Susan also spent her life being the irreplaceable glue and ever-supportive, constantly insightful touchstone for her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, John Denardo, and their beloved animals Chrissy, Bella, Cinnamon and Shirley. Preceded in death by her father, Gilbert “Butch” Schwab, Susan is also survived by her mother, Dorothy A. Schwab; “seesters," Sally Nisser (Mike), Teresa “Honey” Schwab (Steve Hussey), Deanna Schwab (Mark Covaro); brothers, Joseph and Peter; niece, Katya Nisser, and nephew, Khalil Nisser; brother-in-law, Tom Denardo (Valorie Schwarzmann); sister-in-law, Theresa DiNardo Brown (Steven Brown); nephews, Tony Denardo, Steven Brown, Jr. and Benjamin Brown; niece, Maria Denardo. Susan leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends who were touched by her love and kindness and who join her family in cherishing her memory. The family expresses profound gratitude for the care Susan received at UNC Lineberger Cancer Center and UNC Hospice. A memorial service is being planned for May 17 to coincide with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s PurpleStride Raleigh-Durham. Thomas Irvin Humphries
ROXBORO — Thomas Irvin Humphries, 87, of 750 Thee Hester Rd., Roxboro, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Born in Person County, Mr. Humphries was the son of the late Joseph Younger and Nancy Pulley Humphries. Mr. Humphries retired from Collins & Aikman after 42 years and was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Mr. Humphries is survived by his son, Michael Humphries and wife Eleanor, of Roxboro; one grandson, Bradley Humphries and wife Tina, of Roxboro; one great-grandson, Thomas Humphries; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Talley and Josie Jones, and five brothers, Cecil Humphries, Clarence Humphries, Earl Humphries, Joseph Humphries and William Humphries.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Dr. DuPre Sanders. Burial will follow in the Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10-11AM, Saturday at the Brooks & White Chapel prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Humphries, Kenny Humphries, Ray Humphries, Bradley Humphries, Donnie Lamb, and David Talley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class.
