Peggy Hayes Barber
DURHAM — Peggy Hayes Barber, 86, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born and raised in Durham, daughter of the late Leo Linwood Hayes and Marjorie Green Hayes. She was proud of being the only sibling born at home and teased that she knew she belonged to Daddy and Mother because of this and told the other three that they could have gotten mixed up at the hospital. Peggy was a graduate of Bragtown High School and a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and chief cook of the Barber family and loved every moment of her “duties.” She loved the beach, Kerr Lake, swimming and the sun.
Peggy is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Womack “Buck” H. Barber, Jr.; her oldest son, Womack “Butch” H. Barber, III; brother, Walter Lenwood Hayes, Sr.; and baby sister, Betsy H. Tilley. She is survived by her son, Michael Lane Barber; her daughter, Holly B. Gilliam (Mike); her grandchildren, Jordan G. Belcher (Josh), Blake Gilliam, Raygan Gilliam; a great-granddaughter, Ella Belcher; a sister, Carolyn H. Taylor and sister-in-law, Helen C. Hayes.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham by Rev. Jonathan Hendrickson. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet family and friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home.

Dennis Peter Enberg
DURHAM — Dennis Peter Enberg, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2014. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, May 3rd, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham.
A native of Michigan, Dennis was the son of Arnie Enberg and Belle Weiss. He was a 1957 graduate of Armada Area Schools and then served in the United States Navy from 1957-1960. He received his bachelor’s from Michigan State University, his master’s from Miami University (Ohio) and his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Always the teacher, Dennis was a professor of geography at North Carolina Central University for 35 years and spent many summers as an educator for the United States National Park Service.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margery Enberg; sons Erik and Jon; daughter Jill; brother Richard; sister Sharyl; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research or the Armada Education Foundation.

Rebecca McCauley Lewis
DURHAM — Rebecca McCauley Lewis, 67, daughter of late Willie and Gertrude Bagley McCauley, born January 9, 1947, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Home.
Surviving are three daughters, Robin M. Roberts, Melody Young, Michelle Laster; two sons, Michael Lewis, Willie Young (Monique); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Paulette Chambliss, Pauline McCauley, Essie Mae Phillips.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2014 at Orange Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with 12 noon visitation.

Maria Aldridge Nash
DURHAM — Mrs. Maria Aldridge Nash, age 99, a resident of 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Apt. 110, died early Monday morning at Croasdaile Pavilion.
Born October 11, 1914 on East Campus, Duke University, she was the daughter of the late Professor Fred Soule and Bertha McClees Aldridge. She lived her entire life in Durham and attended the Durham City schools. She was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Sarah McCracken Sunday School Class. She was very active until recent years when her health declined. Mrs. Nash also belonged to the King’s Daughters Association.
Mrs. Nash was married to Clarence O. Nash on June 23, 1941. She loved her family and was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her daughter, Becky Keesler and husband Larry of Mount Airy, NC; her sons, Berk Nash and wife Suzanne of Chapel Hill, and Wyatt Nash and wife Lisa of Chesapeake, Virginia; five grandchildren, Lisa Poe and husband Jamie, Greg Nash, Gary Nash, Devon Nash, Jared Nash and wife Kela; six great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and many very dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Dr. Fred Aldridge, Thomas A. Aldridge, Willis H. Aldridge, Julian M. Aldridge, Sr., and Edward Aldridge, and a sister, Elizabeth A. Henderson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Few Chapel at Croasdaile Village, officiated by the Rev. Laurie Hays Coffman and Mrs. Nash’s nephew, Dr. Julian M. Aldridge, Jr. The family will receive friends at Few Chapel from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Carolyn Elizabeth Plummer Williams
DURHAM — Carolyn Elizabeth Plummer Williams, 71, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Terryl (Terri) Williams of Durham; father, Artis Plummer, Sr. of Durham; brother, Dr. Charles W. Plummer (Latonia) of Jamestown, NC; one uncle, Dr. Joseph T. Mitchell of Durham; two aunts, Rosa Plummer Bass of Durham, Juanita J. Mitchell of Bronx, NY; three nieces, one nephew and a host of cousins and friends.
Viewing to be held Thursday, 6:00-8:00 pm and funeral services on Friday, 11:30 am, both at St. Joseph’s A.M.E. Church (Durham).

CREEDMOOR — Furney Green Boone, Jr., 87, passed away Monday, April 29th, 2014.

Mary “Alice” Earp Duke
CREEDMOOR — Mary “Alice” Earp Duke, 75, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014 at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Durham County to the late Charles Clifford Earp and the late Mollie Landon Earp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Patrick Duke; sisters, Roberta Hamlett and Margaret Weaver; brothers, Billy Earp and Bernice Earp. Alice retired from Liggett Myers. She loved animals, especially hummingbirds and her cats.
Mrs. Duke is survived by her sons, Michael Eugene Duke (Brenda), Mark Douglas Duke (Susan), Patrick Keith Duke (Rodney); sister, Dolly Wilkerson (Jack); brothers, Elmer Earp, Joe Earp; grandchildren, Jason Duke (Jessica), Jessica Duke, Matthew Duke and great-granddaughter, Delilah Duke.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at South Granville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Major William Geer, Sr.
CHAPEL HILL — Major William Geer, Sr., son of the late Edgar Geer and Amy Mason Geer, was born November 7, 1940 in Durham County, North Carolina and departed this life on Saturday, April 26, 2014. He was one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward Geer, Lenora Edwards, Elsie Cooke, and Earl Geer.
Major was a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the time of his passing.
Major was educated in the Chapel Hill School System, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1959. He earned his bachelor's degree from Winston-Salem State College in 1963. Major taught in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System for thirty-three years and in the Lee County School System in Sanford, North Carolina for five-and-a-half years.
Major was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Betty Baldwin Geer, of forty-eight years; his two caring sons, Major William Geer, Jr. of Knoxville, Tennessee and Edwin Conley Geer (Rachel) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Christine Beldago Smith, who has been like a daughter; one sister, Levada McCauley of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and one brother, Willis Geer (Audrey) of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren, Chanler Obray Geer, Jalen Conley Geer, Tayshaun Jonathan Geer, Christopher William Geer; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at 11:30a.m. and 12:00p.m., respectively, on Friday, May 2, 2014, at St. Joseph CME Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Andrew Carol “Andy” Lifsey
WAKE FOREST — Andrew Carol “Andy” Lifsey, 58, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Raleigh, NC, February 12, 1956 son of the late Joyce Lewis Lifsey and Leon Carol Lifsey.
Andy was a member of the Heritage Golf Club and considered Kerr Lake his 2nd home. He was in regional sales for PYA Monarch now US Foods for 35 years.
A celebration of life service will be held 7 o’clock Thursday evening, May 1, 2014 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Andy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen H. Lifsey, and a daughter, Charlotte Joy “C.J.” Lifsey, a student at ECU.
