Cornelia Howard Mason
DURHAM — Cornelia Howard Mason, 101, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Warsaw, NC.
She was born October 18, 1911, in High Point, NC, to the late Grover C. and Maggie Wrenn Howard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by D.B. Mason, who died September 18, 1997; and her son, Lester H. Mason of Topsail Beach, who died August 20, 2012.
Cornelia graduated from High Point College with degrees in Music and Education. She was a former teacher and pianist in the Allen Jay School and High Point City Schools. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a charter member and past president of the Bethesda Raritan Auxiliary, former garden club member and Girl Scout leader. She and her husband were owners of D.B. Mason Home Furnishings and Furniture Villa, Durham NC.
In 1946, she was preceded in death by her husband of seven years, the Rev. Lester S. Furr, of the Western North Carolina Methodist Conference.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Franchion of Topsail Beach, NC.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, NC.

Rosetta Gattis Barbee
CHAPEL HILL — Rosetta Gattis Barbee, age 100, departed this life on March 22, 2013.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 6-7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Chapel Hill, NC.


PERSON
Odell Long Moore
TIMBERLAKE — Odell Long Moore, 83, of 475 Jim Moore Rd., Timberlake, died Sunday, March 24, 2013. Born in Person County, Mrs. Moore was the daughter of the late Clay and Lottie Mae Wagner Long. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Long, John Long, Bonnie Long and Bobby Long.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jimmy Alton Moore; three daughters and their husbands, Gail D. and Darrell Russell, of Burlington, Tammy M. and Kenneth Andrews, of Graham, and Sherri M. and Michael Kilby, of Hickory; three brothers and their wives, Harold and Frankie Long, of Roxboro, Gene and Shirley Long, of Creedmoor and Wayne and Kelsey Long, of Timberlake; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. John Pritchard. Entombment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 9:45-10:45 a.m., Tuesday at the Brooks & White Chapel prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Russell, Travis Russell, Bryson Stirewalt, Conner Stirewalt, Kenneth Andrews Jr., and Earl Wayne Clayton.

ELSEWHERE
Charles Leslie "Pete" Cruse Sr.
CHARLOTTE — Charles Leslie Cruse Sr., age 84, of Charlotte passed away peacefully Friday, March 22, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.
He was born December 4, 1928 in Charlotte, North Carolina the son of the late Avery Parks Cruse and Hazel Luella Carpenter Cruse. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Parks Nalle Cruse and Sidney Lee Cruse.
Mr. Cruse served his country proudly in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant during the Korean War. He attended the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, attended Central High School and graduated from Tech High School. With encouragement from Dr. Bonnie Cone, he applied and was awarded the Hurst Scholarship and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University with Honors.
He retired from a long career with Duke Power, now Duke Energy, where he was the Head of Marketing in Durham, NC. He was president of the American Cancer Society in Durham, the Durham Tobaccoland Kiwanis Club, Charlotte Kiwanis Club, head of the Durham Duke Engineering Club, Charlotte Engineering Club, Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Durham and head of the Durham Home Builders Club.
Pete was an avid golfer and could be found most weekends at the Cedarwood Country Club of Charlotte working on his golf game.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Mrs. Charles L. Cruse “Marie B.” of the home; son, Charles “Chuck” Leslie Cruse Jr. and wife, Cynthia Groeger Cruse; daughter, Julianna Marie Cruse Burgess and husband, Jonathan Nesbit Burgess; sister, Miriam Ellen Cruse Gosnell; grandchildren, David and Michelle Cruse and Luke and Elyse Burgess; and numerous other loving family.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Green Memorial Baptist Church, 1324 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
