Marie Swearengin Cross
DURHAM - Mrs. Marie Swearengin Cross, 74, of Durham, died on Monday, March 18, 2013.
Mrs. Cross was born in Durham to the late Henry Swearengin and Mary Lucy Marcom Swearengin. She retired from Adam’s Products as an Administrative Assistant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Cross; and brother, Don Swearengin.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Hunt and Cindy Cross both of Durham; one brother, Fred Swearengin of Alabama; and grandchildren, Megan Hunt, Trey Hunt and Whitney.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery.

Jeanette “Jackie” Bullock Lawson
BAHAMA - Jeanette “Jackie” Bullock Lawson, of Bahama passed away on March 14, 2013 in Williston, FL.
Born January 7, 1918 in Richmond, VA, she lived in the city of Durham for 69 years before moving to Bahama. Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy M. Lawson; her parents, John Wilbur Snipes and Mary Bennett Snipes; her brother, John Wilbur Snipes Jr.; and sisters, Lina Mae Snipes Ferrell and Lucille Elizabeth Snipes.
Mrs. Lawson graduated from Durham High School in 1936. She retired from Wrights Machinery 1980 after 25 years of service as a Tester & Calibration Technician. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, Bahama, and a member of the Joyful Workers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy in Durham, served with Meals on Wheels in Durham, a member of the Bahama Woman’s Club, Bahama, Holy Hatters (Red Hat Society) Gainesville, FL., the Golden Gaters, Gainesville, FL. and the JOY Dining Group, Gainesville, FL.
She was a diehard Carolina basketball fan all her life. After moving to Florida in 2006, she would cheer on the Florida Gator basketball team.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her sons, Jimmy (Pat) Bullock of Newport, TN and Mack (Toni) Lawson, of Archer, FL.; grandchildren, Michael (Caren) Bullock, Jeff (Deneen) Bullock, Beth (Vince) Tucker, and Rob (Kati) Lawson; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Morgan Bullock, Jonathan and Katelyn Tucker and Logan and Riley Bullock.
Funeral services will be held at the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home, 1005 W. Main St., Durham, today, March 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in  Maplewood Cemetery.
The family wants to sincerely thank the staff at the Williston Rehab and Nursing Center, Williston, FL and Hospice of Nature Coast for their loyal care of Jackie.

Rev. William Henry Oliver
DURHAM — Funeral services for Rev. William Henry Oliver (60) of Durham, NC will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Greater Refuge Church, and the interment will follow in the Glennview Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with their friends one hour before the funeral service. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Robinson Oliver; five sons, Mr. Henry Jerome Oliver, Mr. Steven Robinson Oliver, Mr. William Oliver, Mr. Jonathan Oliver, Mr. Bryan Courtnay Oliver; six brothers, Mr. Walter Edward Oliver, Mr. Richard Oliver Jr., Mr. Wilbert Oliver, Mr. Joseph Earl Oliver, Mr. Nathaniel Oliver, Mr. Clarence Oliver; and two sisters, Ms. Dianne Oliver and Mrs. Cheryl Yvonne Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends

Doris Robinson Bowden

CHAPEL HILL — Doris Robinson Bowden (72) of Chapel Hill, died March 17, 2013 at UNC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness
She was a native of Hillsborough, NC and was retired from University of Chapel Hill.
She is survived by son, Darrell Bowden (Kathy); daughters, Carol Inscoe (Lathan), Cheryl Barbour (Donnie); brothers, Johnny Robinson (Francis), Neil Robinson (Carolyn), Rickey Robinson (Ruth); sister, Gail Sain (Eddie); grandchildren, Caroline Wilson (TJ), Skyla Higginbotham (Travis), Crystal Parker, Celia Mullins (Justin), Jesse Bowden, Luke Turner and Joy Turner; seven great grandchildren, Alexi Bowden, Gavin and Ian Higginbotham, Madilyn and Raelyn Parker, Drayton and Brynnan Wilson; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Monroe; and her parents, John and Loyce Robinson.
There will be a memorial service officiated by Pastor Ernie Keck and Pastor Johnny Godair at Walkers Funeral Home, Chapel Hill, NC on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 2 p.m.

Mary Ellen Chandler Rogers
ROXBORO — Mary Ellen Chandler Rogers, native of Roxboro, and recently a resident of Greensboro, died March 17, 2013. Mary Ellen was born to the late Earl T. and Flora Huff Chandler, September 3, 1925. Mary Ellen graduated from Roxboro High School in 1942 and then graduated from Averett College. In 1954 she married Lawrence Rogers, who after 47 years of marriage preceded her in death. Mary Ellen then moved from Roxboro to Greensboro to enjoy time with her children and grandchildren. Her love and care for her family and friends remained her key purpose until her death.  
Mary Ellen enjoyed a 45 year career as a legal secretary in Roxboro and Durham and retired to provide loving care for her husband. Mary Ellen was formerly a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. More recently she was an active member of Roxboro Baptist Church where she also taught a women's Sunday school class, was active in Women's Circle, and often shared her gift of cooking with her church family and many shut-ins.
She is survived by her children, Mary Elizabeth Wright and husband, Tim of High Point and Nancy Cox and husband, Preston of Greensboro; and her grandchildren, Andrew Wright and wife, Heather, Kendall Wright and Olivia Cox.
A service of remembrance will be held at Brooks and White Chapel on March 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. by the Dr. DuPre Sanders. The family will receive and visit with friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

Lonnie Sellers

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Mr. Lonnie Sellers, son of the late Bertha and Sam Sellers, was born on June 1, 1942 and went to eternal rest on March 11, 2013 in New York City, NY. Mr. Sellers worked in the FRA Office Furniture for over 40 years. 
Mr. Sellers is survived by four children: Christopher, Darren Wayne (Kim), Thomas; and his beloved daughter, Pamela Sellers; one grandaughter, Krystique Sellers; a sister, Bettie Williams; two brothers, Samuel (Audrey), Herbert (Lillie); a very special niece, Angela Tucker; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
A private service was held on March 15, 2013 in New York City, New York.
