Charles Rex Pennington
DURHAM - Mr. Charles Rex Pennington, 64, of Durham died on Friday, March 15, 2013. He was the son of the late Herman Pennington and Hazel Lantz Pennington. He was a plumber with Brown Brothers Plumbing Co. He was a member of Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Pennington; son, Robert G. Pennington (Holly); grandson, Alex Pennington; brother, Joe Pennington (Patricia); nieces, Jackie Keith, Sylvia Wiggs; nephew, Dennis Pridgen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Frank Rice and Rev. Jonathan Sexton will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Gaither Anderson, Richard Buchanan, Terry Ketner, Derek Ketner, Jim Lynn, Doug Morgan, Ken Ferrell and James Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 – 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Margaret Markham Pickett
DURHAM — Mrs. Margaret Markham Pickett, age 94, died Friday morning at her home.
Born November 23, 1918 in Chatham County, Mrs. Pickett was the daughter of the late Thalius J. and Dillie Mae Williams Markham. She was employed with Montaldo’s as a buyer for many years. Mrs. Pickett was an active member of Yates Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher. An avid reader and an accomplished artist, she had traveled extensively with her husband, Murray McDonald Pickett, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are her son, Michael J. Pickett and wife, Diane of Durham; her daughter-in-law, Trish Pickett of Luray, Virginia; her brother, Jack Markham and wife, Rea of Greensboro; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband died January 30, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son, Mark C. Pickett.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel, the Rev. John Frederick officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

James Michael “Jim” Schmidt
DURHAM — James Michael “Jim” Schmidt, 69, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his residence. Born on Sept. 24, 1943 in Louisville, KY he was the son of the late Albert Michael Schmidt and Helen Catherine Dieckman.
Jim graduated from Trinity High School in Louisville, KY in 1961, and Bellarmine University, also in Louisville, in 1972. He continued his education at Duke University School of Medicine in the 8th class of the Physician Assistant Program graduating in 1974. He practiced as a certified Physician Assistant at Duke University Medical Center for 33 years, and retired in 2007. Jim had a lifelong love of botany and plant life and enjoyed many hours in the yard at home. He was an avid reader, enjoyed photography and Duke Basketball.
Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret C. Schmidt; his nieces, Laurie Ann Doyle, Lisa Marie Scheid, Jamie Michelle Valkovci; his nephew, Ronald Scott Smith, all of Louisville, KY. He is also survived by his K-9 companion & friend, Sugar.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Schmidt Smith.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 from St. Matthew Catholic Church with Fr. Thanh N. Nguyen and Fr. Tom Tully presiding. Burial will follow with military honors in St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham.

William “Bill” Albany Truesdell
DURHAM — Mr. William “Bill” Albany Truesdell, 89, of Durham, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
Mr. Truesdell was born in Dothan, Ala., to the late Crandell Truesdell and Shelly Allums Truesdell. He retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and the VFW Post 2740. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Truesdell; brother, C.S. Truesdell Jr.; and sisters, Jessie Anderson and Mattie Hayes.
He is survived by his daughters, Joy Casper and Cathy Truesdell, both of Roxboro; step-daughter, Ann Perkins of Durham; stepson, Jim Rochelle of Durham; brother, James Truesdell of Georgia; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Christina Crabtree, Jamie Warren, Sara Garrison; great-grandchildren, Julian, Boyes, Holden Kipp, Vindan Kipp, Addisyn Smith, Casey Crabtree, Owen Crabtree and Alyssa Crabtree, Christian Smith, Karson, Smith, Paisley Warren, Carter Garrison and Oliver Garrison. Blessed with several nieces and nephews for whom he cared for deeply.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jack Cox. Burial with military honors will be in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Catherine Strickland Adcock
OXFORD — Catherine Strickland Adcock died March 15, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Adcock Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted March 17, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Oxford United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Adcock Family Cemetery in Berea.
Surviving is a son, two daughters, a brother, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
