Donna Ann Thomas-Hanes
DURHAM — Funeral Services for Mrs. Donna Ann Thomas-Hanes (52) of Durham, NC, will be conducted on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. from the Love of God Baptist Church and the interment will follow in the Glennview Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with their friends 1 hr. before the funeral Service. Suviviors are her husband, Mr. Veron Hanes; 2 sons, Mr. Eric Robinson, Mr. Veron Hanes Jr.; 5 daughters, Mrs. Ebony Smith (Katrial), Mrs. Demetria Ivey (Omondo), Mrs. Shamar Flythe (Decarlo), Ms. Tiffany Morman, and Ms. Amiracle Clark; father, Dannie Diggs (Diane); 11 grandchildren; 1 god-daughter, Mrs. Sabrina Davis (Rodney); and a host of other relatives and friends.

Geter Gilbert Wilson
DURHAM — Mr. Geter Gilbert Wilson, 81, of Durham died on Saturday, July 19, 2014. He was the son of the late Alex Wilson and Florence Sturgile Wilson. Mr. Wilson served in the US Navy. He retired from UNC Hospital after 25 years of service as a Chief Electrician. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church. He also loved fishing and was a member of Dave Overman’s Fishing Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Norma Dellinger Wilson; son, Geter Eugene (Gene) Wilson; one brother, Ralph Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lee Trumbo; two sisters, Anna Kate Cook and Barbara Watts (Bobby); brothers, J.E. Wilson (Amaryllis), Robert Wilson (Evelyn), Willard Wilson (Ann), Frank Wilson (Mary Emily), Arthur Wilson (Nina), David Wilson (Janice); sister-in-law Charlene Wilson.
Memorial services were held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. Rev. Phil Mumford officiated. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date.

Gerald Blalock Denny
January 18, 1951- July 23, 2014
OXFORD — Gerald Blalock Denny died July 23, 2014 at the age of 63. Gerald was a native of Granville County, was raised in Berea, and lived in Oxford, North Carolina. Owner of Denny Construction, Gerald’s talents were shown in the craftsmanship of projects he built through the years. Gerald is predeceased by his father, Eulie Denny. He is survived by his children, Heather Denny of Raleigh, Kelly Denny Claiborne of Oxford (son-in-law Chris Claiborne), Jeb Denny of Nashville, Tennessee (daughter-in-law Kate Andolsek Denny), Scott Denny of Raleigh, Jake Denny of Raleigh and Ali Denny of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Cecily Claiborne and Judd Claiborne, both of Oxford. Gerald is also survived his mother, Mary Blalock Denny of Berea; sister, Brenda Denny Champion of Berea (brother-in-law Burley Champion); brothers, Doug Denny of Oxford (sister-in-law Beverly Denny), Donald Denny (sister-in-law Cathy Denny) and Mike Denny (sister-in-law Mary Denny) all of Berea.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27th, at 3:00pm in the Parlor at Oxford Baptist Church with a Memorial Service following at 4:00pm. Robert “Dinky” Sylvanus Joyner, Sr.
OXFORD — Robert “Dinky” Sylvanus Joyner, Sr., 73, of Oxford died on Thursday, July 24, 2014. Memorial services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1512 Beaver Dam Rd., Creedmoor. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.

Annie B. Talbert
CHAPEL HILL — Mrs. Annie B. Talbert passed away peacefully at Dubose Health Center in Chapel Hill on July 24, 2014. She was ‘Mom’ to three children, ‘Mizz Talbert’ to thousands of junior high school students, ‘Coach’ to hundreds of young athletes, and ‘Annie B.’ to friends and family.
Annie B. spent her youth on the family dairy farm in Meadowview, Virginia with her four brothers and two sisters, and many cousins and friends nearby. Fun times included basketball games and trips to the swimming hole, but only after all the milk bottles were washed and put away. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Spurgeon (Martha Lee Love), Tom, Frank (Katherine Lester), and David (Alice Wagner), and her sisters Mary Catherine and Martha Belle. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Radford College, and taught high school in Alexandria for two years. Annie B. married her childhood sweetheart, Luther Talbert, in 1948, and they moved to Charlottesville for Luke to complete a medical degree. Mrs. Talbert taught high school physical education and worked in the evenings as a referee for the recreation department. Children John, Luther and Cay were born in Charlottesville, and in 1958 the family moved to Chapel Hill. They quickly discovered the importance of attending football and basketball games if they wanted to be part of any social discourse. Annie B. and Luke were early members of the Olin T. Binkley Baptist church, where Annie B. taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery.
Mrs. Talbert taught health and physical education at Guy B. Phillips Junior High School for over 20 years, and enjoyed coaching volleyball, basketball, soccer, and cheerleading. She was always pleased to see her former students, and was very proud of their accomplishments. She remained close to her colleagues from Phillips for life.
Mrs. Talbert is survived by her children John (Cheryl), Luther (Hope), and Cay Bacon, grandchildren Ryan (Sunny) Talbert, Caytie Talbert, Molly Talbert, Kristine (Alex) Stewart, Luke Bacon, and Catherine Bacon, and great-grandchildren Jackson Talbert and Roman Stewart. Graveside services will be held at the Greenfield Baptist Church in Meadowview on Monday July 28 at 2:00 pm.


PERSON

John Franklin Humphries
ROXBORO — John Franklin Humphries, 92, of 9251 Virgilina Road died July 24, 2014 at his home. He was born in Person County to the late Earley and Minnie Dixon Humphries. Mr. Humphries loved the Lord, his family and his church. He always shared his faith will all he knew. Mr. Humphries was a member of Triple Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He retired from Eaton Corporation in 1984.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Betty West Humphries; one son, Peyton Humphries and wife Brenda, of Timberlake; one grandchild, Rhonda Welch and husband Jayme; and four great-grandchildren, Brody Welch, Addyson Welch, Zoey Welch, and Xander Welch. Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Humphries, Thomas Humphries, James Humphries, and McKinley Humphries; two sisters, Lottie H. Reagan and Nellie H. Gentry; his step-mother, Nannie Tatum Humphries; and one great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Welch.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Triple Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Harris and Mr. D.T. Neal.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00-7:30, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Brooks and White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be D.T. Neal, Lee Holt, James Loftis, Larry Marshall, Darrell Fuqua, Spurgeon Neal.
Mr. Humphries was a very special and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed but we know he is rejoicing in Heaven.
