Shirley Mae Johnson
DURHAM — Memorial service for Shirley Mae Johnson will be conducted on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from The Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness. Survivors are three sons, Paul D. Johnson, Isaac Johnson Jr., Ike Johnson; three daughters, Iola J. Baker, Viola R. Webb, Loretta F. Johnson; one brother, Marshall Taylor; seventeen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hanes Funeral Services.

Alice Hicks Rogers
DURHAM — Funeral service for Alice Hicks Rogers will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the Church of God in Christ Jesus. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service. Survivors are one son, Ezikiel J. Rogers Jr.; one daughter, Katina Rogers; one brother, Spencer Hicks; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Harvey Azell Sanders
DURHAM — Mr. Harvey Azell Sanders, 65, of 1218 Rosewood Ave., died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his residence. His memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Monday, January 13 at Beechwood Cemetery, 3300 Fayetteville St. The family will receive friends at Burthey Funeral Chapel from 6-8pm on Sunday evening, January 12.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his son, Derrick Clayton; his mother, Irene L. Sanders; three sisters, Geraldine S Ruffin, Veola S. Williams and Darlene S. Bashir and three brothers, James Sanders, Jr, Arbin Sanders and Dan Sanders. Arrangements by Burthey Funeral Service.

Lucille Bethea Williams
DURHAM — Mrs. Lucille Bethea Williams, 77, of 1913 S. Roxboro St., died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at her residence. Her service will be conducted at 1 pm on Sunday, January 12, at Russell Memorial CME Church. Interment will follow in Markham Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm at the church on Sunday one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Don Williams, Sr; four children, Don Williams, Jr., Jackie Williams, Beverly Johnson and Kathy Williams; and two siblings, Vivian McCray and George Bethea. In lieu of flowers, the family asks check donations be made payable to the Lucille B. Williams Memorial Scholarship and mail to Russell Memorial CME Church, Attn: Lucille B. Williams Memorial Scholarship, 703 S. Alston Ave, Durham, NC 27707.

Patricia A. Leath
CHAPEL HILL — Patricia "Pat" Ann (Scherer) Leath, 86, Attica, IN, and mother of Chapel Hill resident Joanna (Brad) Williams, passed away in the St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital, on Monday, January 6, 2014.
Pat was born at home in Cicero, Indiana, on April 4, 1927. She was the daughter of the late John Dewey and Nora Dell Marie (Cook) Scherer. She was raised in Cicero, graduating from Jackson Central High School in 1945. She received her undergraduate degree with honors from Ball State Teachers College in 1949. While attending school at Ball State she was a member of the Alpha Omega Pi Sorority. For several years, Pat taught kindergarten in Speedway, IN and attended Columbia University. She later received her master's degree in Elementary Education from Columbia University in New York, graduating with honors. While attending Columbia University, she met John Blandford Leath and a romance began.
On August 22, 1954, Pat married John Leath in the Cicero Christian Church.
Pat retired as an elementary school teacher for the Attica Consolidated School Corp. She was a school teacher in the Attica Grade School for 35 years. She taught over 1,000 children and loved each and everyone of them. She took joy in seeing them grow, succeed and have good lives.
Pat was a member of the Jobs Daughters; Eastern Star; member and sponsor of the Rainbow Girls; Tri Kappa Sorority in Attica.
Pat leaves behind her husband, John of 59 years; her two daughters, Jennifer Ann Leath, Huntington, IN and Joanna Kay ( Brad ) Williams, Chapel Hill, NC; four grandchildren, John Blandford Leath Gladden, Jeffrey Scherer Gladden, Katherine Victoria Williams and Samantha Joanna Williams.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, January 11, from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 3:00 p.m. with Ed Osborne officiating. Private family burial will be held in the Cicero Cemetery, Cicero, IN, on Sunday, January 12. Memorial contributions may be made to the Patricia Ann Leath Scholarship Fund.

Shebra Beasley Paylor
HILLSBOROUGH — Shebra Beasley Paylor, born May 28, 1957 to Elizabeth and the late Arthur (Butler) Beasley, died January 7, 2014 in Duke University Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 PM Sunday in Warren’s Chapel Baptist Church with family visitation thirty minutes before the funeral in the church. Burial in church cemetery.
Survivors are husband, Curtis Paylor; sons, Lionell Jr. and Jansen Paylor; daughters, Annie Marie Palmer, Lisa Johnson and Louise Wilson; mother, Elizabeth Beasley; brother, Michael Beasley; sisters, Tammy Snipes (Eddie) and Maria Jones (Chris); aunts, Elsie Hester and Mable Wade (James) and a great-aunt, Corine Thompson.

BEAUFORT, S.C. — Dan Houston “Spot” Thompson, 87, and husband of Helen McCann Rearden Thompson, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, SC.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Tuesday, at Carteret Street United Methodist Church with burial in the National Cemetery in Beaufort.
