Rose Lee Harris
DURHAM - Rose Lee Harris of 2815 Cadillac Avenue, Durham, N.C., was a long-time employee of Forest at Duke Retirement Center. She departed her life on December 18, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013, at New Jerusalem Community Church at 1 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Alice “Joyce” (Wetzel) Houk
DURHAM — Alice “Joyce” (Wetzel) Houk, age 80, formerly of Durham, died on December 19, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, the Rev. Dr. Cornelius Bailey Houk, in 2007. Surviving are her children, Diane Lee Houk (Fred Freiberg) of Long Island City, N.Y.; Kenneth David Houk (Roger Secours) of San Mateo, Calif.; Peter Andrew (Amanda) Houk of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Stefan (Elana), Emma, and Bethany; great-grandson, Oliver; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Joyce was born in Erie, Mich., daughter of Harry M. and Helen (Lee) Wetzel. She graduated in 1954 from Blodgett Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Grand Rapids, Mich. She was a nurse at Presbyterian Sage Memorial Hospital in Ganado, Ariz., and Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., during the 1950s. After 12 years as a stay-at-home mom and wife, while she lived in Pikeville, Ky., Beirut, Lebanon, and Southfield, Mich., Joyce returned to nursing in Labor & Delivery in Detroit, Mich., Waukesha, Wis., and at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. She served as a Presbyterian Elder, Moderator of the Milwaukee Presbytery, and President of Durham Church Women United. She worked faithfully as a peacemaker for interreligious understanding and racial reconciliation. A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joyce Houk to Housing for New Hope, 18 W. Colony Place, Suite 250, Durham, NC 27705, a non-profit serving the homeless.
DURHAM — Mrs. Hildegard (Hildy) Lindsey, 60, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, as a result of a serious car accident. She was born in Rockingham County, Va., to the late Henry Russell Jobe and the late Sylvia Shellenberger Jobe. She spent her formative years growing up in India, Pakistan, South Africa, England and Lebanon and had wide interests and tolerance for diversity. Hildy was a graduate of Marietta College (BS), Miami University (MS) in Ohio and Southern Methodist University (ABD) Dallas where she studied math and statistics. Most recently she was a statistician for Millard Brown.
Hildy was an activist for social and environmental issues, as well as an accomplished seamstress, cook, and gardener. She was a loving mother, wife and sister, as well as best fiend to all who knew her including her animal friends. Beautiful spirit doesn't begin to describe how incredibly brilliant, strong, caring and loving she was, yet so humble. She was always smiling and positive about life.
She is survived by her husband, John Lindsey of Durham; sons, Sloan Lindsey of Vienna, Austria, and Brian Lindsey of Columbia, S.C.; grandchild, Fraya Lindsey; sisters, Holly Jobe and Katherine Jobe.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

CARY — Neil Grant Rogers, 69, of Apex, died on December 21, 2013, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.
