Howard Garth Hamilton
DURHAM — Howard Garth Hamilton, age 93 of Durham, North Carolina passed away on August 7, 2013.
He was born in Cardiff, Maryland on Jan. 22, 1920 to Howard and Gurnice Hamilton. Garth served valiantly during WWII in the Pacific Americal Division of the U.S. Army with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was awarded the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star as well as other commendations and medals. Garth graduated from University of Virginia in 1949.
He is survived by his children, Marvin Hamilton, Leslie Bednarski, Bruce Hamilton, Stephanie Ford; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Laura Heaps Hamilton.
There will be a memorial service at the Raleigh National Cemetery, Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11 a.m.
William Davis Hester
DURHAM - William Davis Hester, 68, died peacefully, Wednesday in Duke University Med. Center.
A Memorial Service will be held 12 p.m., Monday in Chavis-Parker Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour before the funeral, 11 until 12 p.m.
Survivors are son, Brian Hester (Shaquanda); and daughter, Tosha Hester, all of Durham; two brothers, Fred Hester of Mebane and Donnell Hester (Carolyn) of Hillsborough; and five grandchildren.

Rickey R. Spain
DURHAM — Rickey R. Spain, 56, of Durham, passed on August 7, 2013. The son of Donethel Thomas and the late Chester Jenkins and the father of two daughters, Monica (Terrence) Williams and LaDonna King.
Viewing will be held at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 and funeral service will follow directly after. The family will receive family and friends at the home, 2712 Sundial Circle, Durham, NC 27704.

Ralph Montgomery Carter
MEBANE — Ralph Montgomery Carter, 82, of Mebane, NC, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Hospice Home, Burlington, NC.
Mr. Carter was born in Alamance County. He served his country in the US Air Force. He retired as a truck driver for Kingsdown with 38 years service.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Lane Wells Carter of the home; brother, Mack Carter, Hamstead, NC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Syrus and Linda Wells of Burlington, NC; sisters-in-law, Lucille Carter of Burlington, NC and Judy Carter, Hamstead, NC; two nephews and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by parents, Harold A. Carter Sr. and Nona Montgomery Carter; sisters, Mary E. Miller, Kate C. Cole, Doris Scott; brothers, Bill and Fred Carter.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The body will remain at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, NC until carried to the cemetery for the graveside service. Officiating will be Rev. Keith Spake.

Walter O. Bradsher
HURDLE MILLS — Walter O. Bradsher, the son of the late Walter and Katie Bradsher, departed this life on Thursday, August 8th at the age of 85 years old. Walter O. Bradsher is survived by his wife, Missouri Brown Bradsher; and two daughters, Colette Williams of Charlotte, NC and Paulette Troy of Raleigh, NC. Walter O. Bradsher is also survived by three grandchildren, Corey II, Ronald II and Ciera; and one great granddaughter, Cilena. He also leaves to mourn one brother, Lawrence Bradsher; and one sister, Shirley Stewart.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 11th at 3 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Hurdle Mills, NC.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 10th from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Service.
