Frances Mae Clayton
ROUGEMONT - Frances Mae Clayton, 74, of Rougemont, NC, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 and was born October 21, 1938, daughter of the late Lewis and Vergie Torain Bass.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Glenn Grove Baptist Church. Family visitation: One hour before the funeral, 1 to 2 p.m. Burial in church cemetery.
Surviving are devoted husband, Thedrick Clayton of the home; son, Dale Clayton of Hillsborough; daughter, Cathy Clayton Wilson (Rev. Dr. Jerry Wilson Sr.); grandsons, Jerry "JO' Wilson II, all of Greensboro, and Brent Clayton of Rougemont, NC; two sisters, Dorothy B. Corbett (Rev. Dr. Samuel Corbett ) and Virgielene Nesmith, all of Durham; two brothers, John Thomas Bass of Baltimore, MD, and Joe Louis Bass (Frances) of Durham.
Public viewing: Friday, 10 until 7 p.m., with the family being at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday.  Arrangements: Chavis-Parker Funeral Home.

Ina Prevatte Deans
DURHAM - Ina Prevatte Deans, age 93, died peacefully at the Canterbury House in Roxboro on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Ina was born in Robeson County to the late Foster F. and Ina Freeman Prevatte on June 9, 1920.
Ina graduated from the Baker-Thompson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and later worked as a registered nurse at McPherson Hospital, Murdock Center, Durham Regional, and the VA Hospital. In 1987, she retired from the John Umstead Hospital in Butner.  Ina was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church and the Redwood Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by her son, James Leonard Deans Jr. of Timberlake, NC; her sister, Rebecca P. Jackson of St. Paul, NC; her three grandchildren, Jordan Blake Deans of Roxboro, Adam Tyler Deans, also of Roxboro, Wendy Michelle Boyle and husband, Todd, of Raleigh, NC; and one great grandson, Anderson Jacob Boyle. Ina was preceded in death by her husband, James Leonard Deans Sr.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham, with the Reverend Hal Dickerson presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Mary Elizabeth Rigsbee Gay
DURHAM - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rigsbee Gay, 84, died Tuesday at her home. Mrs. Gay was born in Durham, NC, the daughter of the late Arthur Lewis Rigsbee Sr. and the late Mary Alice Carrington Rigsbee. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Erwin Mills and Duke Medical Center. Mrs. Gay was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Glenwood Gay; brother, Walter L. Rigsbee; and sisters, Mildred L. McFarland and Evelyn M. Boger.
Mrs. Gay is survived by a daughter, Mary Elaine Council of Durham; son, Douglas Wayne Council (Barbara); brothers, A. Lewis Rigsbee Jr. (Jane), of Valdese and Tony L. Rigsbee Sr. (Shirley) of Hurdle Mills; sister, Bobbie J. Nash (Richard) of Greenville, Alabama; and 11 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Boogie. 
Graveside funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Brogden officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Yvette L'mont Shoffner McKnight
DURHAM - Yvette L'mont Shoffner McKnight, 51, was taken peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on July 27, 2013. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas Leonard McKnight Sr.; daughter, Thomesha McKnight; son, Thomas McKnight Jr.; granddaughter, Kaliyana McKnight; grandson, Maurel McKnight; sisters, Phyllis Martin (Sedalia, N.C.), Melanie Shoffner (Durham N.C.); and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and many cousins.
Funeral services will be at Markham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. with visitation at 12 noon.

Anita C. Harris Miller
DURHAM - Anita C. Harris Miller, 57, was born in Raleigh on March 26, 1956. Anita graduated from Enloe High School and North Carolina Central University. Anita is survived by her husband, Shelton Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 3, 2013 at 12 noon at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Repast will be held at Maple Temple United Church of Christ.

McArthur Nichols
DURHAM - McArthur Nichols, 69, departed this life on July 25, 2013. He is survived by two daughters, Symetta Thorpe Williams, Joycealee Thorpe; one son, Will Thorpe (Priscilla); and a god daughter, Anita Smith (Ed); four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, four sisters, one brother and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Services will be at Mt. Zion Christian Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with visitation at 12 noon.

Alma Clements Sorrell
DURHAM - Mrs. Alma Clements Sorrell, 99, of Durham died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. She was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late James Offie Clements and Blanche Beavers Clements. She was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Woodrow Sorrell; two brothers, James Linwood Clements and Winfred Clements; two sisters, Olivia C. Mason and Madeline C. Marks.
She is survived by one son, Clyde R. Sorrell (Sharon); one sister, Ruth Perry; three grandchildren, Wendy Auman, Paige Ciasto and Parrish Livingston.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Tommy Talton, Pastor Betty Bunn will officiate and Wendy Auman will speak. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mary Margaret Young
DURHAM — Mary Margaret Young died peacefully on July 26, 2013 at the home of her daughter Nona Young Bracy.
Mary was born Mary Margaret Azzara Jr. on February 8, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA. Mary was married to the love of her life, John Earl Young, on October 23, 1950; they were married for 47 wonderful years. She was a busy wife and homemaker. She loved to sew, including bridal; an excellent cook and baker. She was a doting grandmother; known to all the children in her life as Gram.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Mary Ann DeFlaviis and husband, Ralph; Robert Young and wife, Margaret; Nona Young Bracy and husband, Norman; Pamela King and husband, Brian; and five grandchildren: Jonathan Young, Peggy Forsythe, Barbara DeFlaviis, Clayton King and Vincent DeFlaviis. Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10 a.m.

Jesse R. Warren
CLINTON — Mr. Jesse R. Warren, 76, of 1571 Big Piney Grove Road, Clinton, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at home.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 3 at Big Piney Grove Baptist Church in Clinton, with the Rev. Fredrick Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Warren Family Cemetery.
Public visitation will be held Friday, August 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home in Clinton.
Mr. Warren is survived by his wife, Perlie Warren of the home; daughter, Cheryl Warren of Fayetteville; sons, Anthony Warren, Jeffrey Warren and Reginald Warren, all of Durham; sisters, Minnie Spates of Clinton and Peggy Chisolm of Fayetteville; brothers, Hubbard Warren of Hartford, CT and Harold Warren of Miami, FL; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
