Charles Wesley Barnes
DURHAM — Charles (“Sweets”) Wesley Barnes, 85, succumbed to illness on May 13, 2014.
Survivors include a sister, Cytina M. Barnes, an aunt Luvern Gines, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ on Saturday at 11:00am followed by a service at 12 noon.

Roland O. Cardwell
DURHAM — Mr. Roland O. Cardwell, formerly of Durham, NC, entered eternal rest peacefully at his home in Creve Coeur, Missouri, on Monday, April 21. 2014. He was a retired chemist from Monsanto Corporation after 30+ years of service.
A Service Celebrating his Life will be held at The Church of the Abiding Savior, Lutheran, 1625 S. Alston Avenue, Durham, NC on Saturday, April 24, 2014 at 12 noon with Pastor Gordon Myers officiating.
Cherishing his memory are his daughter, Mrs. Constance Cardwell-Burnell (Yishma’el); his wife, Mrs. Barbara Cardwell; sister, Mrs. Delores Cardwell Tate of Greensboro, NC; goddaughter, Ms. Terry Lynn Morris of Durham, NC; four grandchildren, Nyia S. Burnell, Karissa Morris, Yasmeen Burnell, Na’im Burnell; and an extended family that includes members of the Cardwell, Nesbith, Thompson and Kee families.

John Arnett Cary Jr.
DURHAM — Funeral services for John Arnett Cary Jr. will be held Saturday, May 24 at 12 noon at Fisher Funeral Parlor. The family visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
Survivors include his mother, Elvira Johnson Cary; 2 sisters, Carol J. Bethea and Cheryl Jenkins; 2 brothers, Horace Cary and Roland C. Cary; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Larry Wayne Glisson
DURHAM — Mr. Larry Wayne Glisson, 63, of Mebane, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
Mr. Glisson was born in Durham. He retired from NC Mutual Wholesale Drugs Company in 1988. He was preceded in death by his father, Harris Glisson.
He is survived by his wife, Connie P. Glisson; his mother, Peggie S. Glisson; son, Bradley Glisson (Erin) of Fredericks, Va.; two brothers, Donnie Glisson (Martha) of Durham, Barry Glisson (Judi) of White Lake; and granddaughter, Abigail Glisson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Hugh O’Shields. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Johnnetta Elaine Jenkins Moore
DURHAM — Johnnetta Elaine Jenkins Moore, 67, departed this life on May 19, 2014 at Duke Medical Center.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, one son, four grandchildren, three sisters, one brother, two aunts and four great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm today Refiner's Fire Community Church at 1003 East Main Street, Durham, NC, with a viewing at 6:00 pm.

Eva Long Garrett Clayton
TIMBERLAKE — Eva Long Garrett Clayton, 91, of 434 Roby Barton Rd., Timberlake, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Born in Person County, Mrs. Clayton was the daughter of the late Mark and Eva Long Garrett and wife of the late Harold Thomas Clayton. Mrs. Clayton lived and worked in Person County all of her life, never wanting to venture too far from home. She loved her family and always supported them in all that they did. Her joy was in serving her family. She was a member of Helena United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by two daughters, Vicki Clayton Oakley and husband Larry, of Roxboro, and Kathy Clayton Bradsher and husband Arch, of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Joel Clayton Bradsher and Anna Kaitlin Bradsher.
Funeral services will be held 1PM Friday, May 23 at Helena United Methodist Church by Pastor Julie Poston and Rev. Jack Snyder. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11:30AM-12:45PM Friday at Helena United Methodist Church prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be her grandson Joel Bradsher, her nephews Bud Daniel and Thomas Moore, and Terry Bolton, Kenny Clayton, Snowball Clayton, Randy Blalock, and Rick Chambers.

Thomas George Hurysz
WADESBORO — Thomas George Hurysz, 86, died May 13, 2014 in hospice care. He was born the only son of George and Eloise Hurysz on January 25th, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he met Madeline Jennings. They married in October of 1950 and to this marriage four children were born. He married Queen Lee in 1984.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Queen. Surviving him are his children, Georgia Michelle Mann, Lynne Harmon (Doug), Michael Hurysz, Steve Hurysz (Linda), and his grandchildren, Erin Scott, Stephen-Michael Hurysz, Jacob Hurysz and Carson Hurysz. Also surviving him is his stepdaughter Kenya Lee.
Tom served his country in the Marine Corps and was a manager with IBM until his retirement. Although he valued education and enjoyed teaching, he also loved working with his hands in his garden and his woodworking shop.
His family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to his home health care workers who cared for him during the last few years of his life.

Barbara W. Kennedy
WARRENTON — Barbara Whitby Kennedy died Monday at Carillon Assisted Living in Durham. Born in 1923 in London, England, Barbara married the late John Pressly Kennedy, Jr. of Charlotte in 1949. Since 1968, the couple lived in Raleigh, Hillsborough, and Warrenton. Barbara is survived by one brother, two sons, and five grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 2:00 PM Saturday. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church or to the Cherry Hill Historical Foundation, both in Warrenton. Online condolences may be made at
