Beatrice “Bea” Wright Ross Bragg
DURHAM - Beatrice “Bea” Wright Ross Bragg, age 96, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Croasdaile Pavilion. A Durham native, Bea was the youngest of seven children born to the late Floyd B. Wright and Mary Woods Wright. She was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. Bea was married to William J. Ross Jr. for 59 years who passed away in 1995.
She is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Ross Minor (Merle) of Durham and Betsy Ross Nichols (Nick) of Hillsborough; four grandchildren, Chris Nichols (Virginia), Julie Nichols, Carolyn Wise (Ryan) and Bill Minor (Sharon); three great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. Also surviving Bea is her husband, A. Watts Bragg Sr.; and step-son, Arnold Watts Bragg Jr. (Martha).
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the William Few Chapel of Croasdaile Village with the Rev. Martha K. McLean and the Rev. Denise Waters presiding. A reception will be held after the service at Croasdaile, and then burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Robert David Carroll (Bob)
DURHAM — At the age of 84, Bob passed away peacefully in the Hock Family Pavilion (Duke Hospice) in Durham, NC on July 13, 2013.
Bob was born in 1929 in Hillsborough, NC and educated in Raleigh, NC as a resident of the Methodist Children's Home. He served in the US Air Force during the late 1940's, returned to High Point College to earn his degree and came to Roxboro, NC in the 1950's to teach at Kennedy's Commercial School.
A true gentleman, Bob put family and friends first in his life. With a kind heart and loving spirit, he gave unselfishly of himself to support and enhance their lives. He will be remembered for his keen intellect, amazing vocabulary, and his quiet unassuming demeanor.
A natural athlete, Bob enjoyed playing semi-pro baseball, golf, and bowling.
He was also committed to community service as evidenced by the many volunteer hours with the Roxboro Kiwanis Club, Person County Planning Board and Board of Adjustments.
His final years were spent at his daughter's home in Durham. His days were filled with the joy and laughter he shared with his caregiver, Ruby Cash.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Marion, who he, without reservation, cared for during her decline due to Alzheimer's disease.
He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Scarlett; his children and their spouses, Matt & Susan Harris, Martha & Clay Tuck and Amy & Randy Sears; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Jordan, Claire, Carter, Robert and Caroline, who lovingly referred to him as 
"Pop Pop."
A funeral service will be held at Roxboro Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial immediately follows at Burchwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Claiborne Tuck, Bill Austin, Dell Minnis, Earl Brooks. Sean Gray, and Ted Michie. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Berryhill, Cotton Powell and Tommy Pridgen.

Cecil Lloyd Patterson (Pat), Ph.D.
DURHAM — Mass of the Resurrection for Cecil Lloyd Patterson (Pat), Ph.D., Retired Colonel, U.S. Army, will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 82 Kimberly Drive, Durham, N.C.
Survivors include: wife, Vivian Rogers Patterson; grandson, Miquail M. Broadous (Lanita); granddaughter, Teria Antoinette Broadous; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives.

Jerry Wayne Cates
STEM — Jerry Wayne Cates, 69, a longtime resident of Stem, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.
A native of Durham County, the son of the late Alfred Benton and Helen Stanfield Cates, he was of the Baptist faith and was owner of Jerry’s Lock Service for over 20 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2013 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel by Rev. Brock Meyer. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Shirley Jenkins Cates of the home; a daughter, Kim Cates (Danny Roberts) of Durham; three sons, Jerry Cates of Durham, Jonathan Cates (Donna) of Roxboro, Edward Cates of Albemarle; several grandchildren, a sister, Peggy C. Ray of Wake Forest; and a brother, Jack Cates Sr. of Durham. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ware; and a brother, Alfred Cates Jr.

Dustin Lee Powell
TIMBERLAKE — Dustin Lee Powell, 31, of 1014 Charlie Reade Rd., Timberlake, died Sunday, July 14, 2013. Born in Durham County, Mr. Powell is the son of Andy and Emma Jean Gentry Powell, of Timberlake. He was a member of Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church. He was an Eagle Scout. He loved basketball, golf, soccer and was an avid Duke fan. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed being around others as well as his faithful companion, Abby. He was preceded in death by his sister, Catina Powell; and his grandparents, Alice P. Evans, Earnest Powell, William and Clara Bell Gentry.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jarrod Davis and the Rev. Eddie Hill.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8 p.m., Monday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Casket bearers will be Kyle Gentry, Brent Avery, Ronnie Wesley, Christopher Wilkerson, Brandon Brooks, and Bradley Taylor.  Honorary casket bearers will be Karmen Wilkerson and Kara Wilkerson.
