James Lewis Hall
DURHAM — Mr. James Lewis Hall, 85, died Saturday afternoon at Duke University Hospital.
Mr. Hall was born and raised in Durham. He was educated in the Durham City schools before serving his country with the US Army. For many years, he was employed with A&P Foods and Butler Shoe Repair. During his enlistment, and for several years after discharge, James was a member of the Wing Victory Chorus. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.
Mr. Hall is survived by his brothers, Jerry T. Hall of Connecticut, Robert L. Hall of Durham; cousin, Pat Bell of Durham; several nieces and nephews; and friend, Charlie Rigsbee, who the family would like to thank for all of his generousity and help with Jimmy.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm in Maplewood Cemetery, Section 16. Officiating will be Rev. Johnny Hewett.
The family will receive visitors Friday afternoon, PRIOR to the service from 12:00 PM – 1:45 PM at the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home.

Marjorie E. Jesinger
DURHAM — Marjorie E. Jesinger, 76, died suddenly Saturday, August 16, 2014. She was born September 29, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Warnock Blyth. Marjorie retired, after many years of dedicated service, as a Registered Nurse from Duke Hospital and its affiliates. Marjorie graduated in 1958 from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a devoted member of Duke Chapel. She loved the North Carolina coast and the mountains.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Robert Arno Jesinger and his wife, Rachel Anna Sablosky of Vacaville, CA; a daughter, Meta Lynn Penwell and husband, Christopher of Minden, NV; five grandchildren, Benjamin Isaiah, Megan Sydney and Claire Gabrielle Penwell, all of Minden, NV, Rena Christine and Aaron Michael Jesinger of Vacaville, CA; and many devoted friends.
The family will be present 2-3 p.m., Thursday, at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham, where Funeral Services will follow at 3 p.m. in The Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Donations in Marjorie’s memory can be made to the SPCA of Durham County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Durham, NC 27705.

Clifton Jones, Jr.
DURHAM — Mr. Clifton Jones, Jr., 72, departed his life on August 14, 2014 at his home.
He is survived by his two children, one sister and a loving friend.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 at Holloway Memorial Chapel. Visitation 11:00 am to 12:00 noon and the service at 12 noon.

Addie Perkins Marshall
DURHAM — Mrs. Addie Perkins Marshall, 91, died on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina. She was born May 8, 1923 in Louisa, Virginia to the late John Rice Perkins & Addie Mae Crawford Perkins. After receiving her degree from Virginia State College (now Virginia State University), Addie taught in the Chicago Public School System until her retirement in 1987. Addie married William Marshall in 1978 and spent most of her married years with her husband in Chicago until their retirement and return to Louisa. Following the death of her husband nine years ago, she moved to Durham, North Carolina to live near her remaining brothers.
Mrs. Marshall is survived by her sister, Dorcas Montgomery of White Plains, MD; her brother, the Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Perkins Sr. and his wife Carrie; and brother Louis B. Perkins, Sr. and his wife Harriette Kennebrew Perkins, of Durham, NC. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Apex School of Theology in Durham, North Carolina and on Saturday, August 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia.
Dorothy Green Mims
DURHAM — Dorothy Green Mims, 91, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Carver Living Center. She was born in Durham, daughter of the late James Green and the late Nora M. Boone.
Mrs. Mims is survived by her husband, Donald H. Mims; sons, Joseph L. Bauerband, III and girlfriend, Patti Porter, William G. Mims; grandsons, Anthony Mims and girlfriend, Lindsey Lovins, Joseph L. Bauerband, IV and wife, Becky and granddaughter, Virginia Bauerband.
She graduated from Durham High School in Class of 1941 and moved to New Jersey, to Washington, D.C. and returned to Durham in 1948 where she met and married Donald Mims in 1949. She was a member of Willowhaven Country Club in 1962 and was an avid golfer for a number of years. She was a charter member of Glendale Heights Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Stacey Lundy officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Peggy Lou Paschall
DURHAM — Peggy Lou Paschall, 82, of Durham died on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
Peggy was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Carl L. Paschall and Mae Cash Paschall. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. She attended the Primetimers and the Jolly Group. Peggy retired from IBM Corp. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Paschall and Edith Paschall Evans.
She is survived by her brother, Carl Paschall and wife, Norma of Durham; nieces, Lois Draughon (Rodney) and Deborah Monk; nephew, Edward Paschall; great-nieces and nephews, Abby Broadway (Jason), Jenny Hoffelt (David), April Draughon, James Draughon, Phillip Paschall (Ty Keister); great-great-nieces and -nephews, Stephanie Hoffelt, Ryan Hoffelt and Shalyn Paschall.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, Rev. Hugh O’Shields officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at Hudson Funeral Home. HILLSBOROUGH — Richard Pittman, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at his home. He was born in Jefferson, KY, son of the late Ernest Pittman and the late Violet Ross Woodlief Pittman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Williams Pittman; son, Billy Terrell; brother, Lacey Pittman and sister, Shirley Pittman Williams. As a young child, he moved to Durham, retired from Liggett Myers Tobacco Company and was a devoted member of Gospel Baptist Tabernacle for over 29 years. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was loved by all.
Mr. Pittman is survived by his daughter, Kay McAdams (Wesley) of Mebane; son, Jeff Terrell (Kim) of Hillsborough; grandchildren, John McAdams (Christie), Melissa McAdams (Wayne Herndon), Jonathan Terrell (Brittany), Jeremy Terrell; sisters, Marjorie Stanley (Roland) of Durham and Peggy Turner (Bennie) of Butner.
A funeral service will be held 5 p.m., Sunday, at Gospel Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. David Bolick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Sidney Wade Ellis
ROUGEMONT — Sidney Wade Ellis, 79, of Bahama Road, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Hock Family Pavilion. Born in Durham County he is the son of the late Sidney Pass Ellis & Virginia Laura Davis Ellis, and is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Betty Lou Laws Ellis. He was a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church. Mr. Ellis farmed his entire life.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his two sons, Wade Ellis and wife Garnet and Lane Ellis and wife Wanda, both of Rougemont; four grandchildren, Tracy Clayton, Ethan Ellis, Teresa Strum, and Michael Ellis; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas Ellis, James Ellis, and Phillip Ellis, all of Rougemont; and two sisters, Ruth Ellis Ashley of Timberlake and Mary Ann Ellis Williams of Durham.
Funeral Services will be held 2PM, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Red Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. David Pryor and the Rev. Joe Glenn and the Rev.
Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Ellis, Mark Ellis, Randy Ashley, Wallace Law, II, Ken Williams, Grant Jordan, Chad Newton, John Blomberg, and Randy Jackson.

Alice Byrd Scarborough
WAKE FOREST — Alice Byrd Scarborough, 92, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2014 at Hillside Nursing Center in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Alice was the daughter of the late George Washington Byrd, Sr. and Lorena Gertrude Byrd of Erwin, North Carolina. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Erwin Mills, now Burlington Industries. She is a former resident of Durham and attended Grove Park Chapel.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Russell M. Scarborough, Sr., her stepson Russell M. (Rusty) Scarborough, Jr. of Durham, her brother, Waymon T. Byrd, and her sister, Louise B. Sheppard, both of Erwin. She is survived by her two children from a previous marriage, Sylvia Dawne Porter Gregory of Raleigh and James Russell (Jimmy) Porter, Sr. (Jean) of Wake Forest. Also surviving her is a brother, G.W. Byrd, Jr. (Evelyn) of Lillington; step-daughter, Toni S. Fuller (Rick) of Durham; her grandchildren, James Russell “Russ” Porter, Jr. (Nikki) of Wake Forest, Kimberly Porter Miller (Matt) of Durham, Melinda Gregory Villena (Gabriel) and Sylvia Carla Gregory of Raleigh, Kristia S. Murray of Plattsburgh, NY; and great-grandchildren, Ava Marie Porter, Colt Fox, Brett and Cole Villena and Kayla and Jodi Murray.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Dale Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 to 2 pm., prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hillside Nursing Center for their loving care of our mother these last few years and we are very grateful for their kindness and support shown to our family throughout her stay.
Whenever we visited Mom, she would tell us as we were leaving, “Be careful going home, and thanks for everything.” Today, we say to her “Mom, you are home now, and thank you for everything!” We will always love you, and will miss your sweet smile, your beautiful blue eyes, your wonderful wit, and your faithful prayers for us.”
