Roderick "Duke" Myrle Fenner
DURHAM — Mr. Roderick "Duke" Myrle Fenner was born August 22, 1956 in Durham, NC. He passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home.   
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his mother, Thelma F. Hamilton; his children, siblings, and a host of other relatives and friends.

David "Wolf" Lindsey
DURHAM — David "Wolf" Lindsey departed his life on May 31, 2013. Memorial services will be held today, June 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Tabernacle Church, 2517 S. Alston Ave. in Durham NC. The family will have repass after the memorial service at 2903 Thelma Street, Durham NC.

Phyllis J. Stanford
DURHAM - Mrs. Phyllis J. Stanford, 75, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Meadowland of Hillsborough. She was born in Forsyth Co., daughter of the late Charlie Ashburn and Ethel Alford Ashburn. Mrs. Stanford was a medical secretary at Duke Children’s Orthopedics prior to her retirement.
Surviving are her husband, Townsend C. Stanford, Jr.; son, Townsend Craig Stanford; and grandchildren, Townsend Corey Stanford (Madison), Tyler Stanford and Kara Stanford.
A funeral service will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at Grey Stone Baptist Church with Dr. Clay Waters and Rev. Tom Bodkin officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Samuel Wallace “Buddy” Goss Sr.
HILLSBOROUGH — Mr. Samuel Wallace “Buddy” Goss Sr., 84, of Hillsborough, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2013.
Mr. Goss was a native of Durham, the son of the late Samuel Hamilton Goss and Verla Woodard Goss. Until retiring, he owned and operated Goss Linoleum & Tile Inc. for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Delores Smith Goss; two sons, Samuel Goss Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Hillsborough and Billy Goss of Durham; three daughters, Vickie Daniel and husband, James, of Durham, Linda Nifong and husband, Ricky, of Oak Island and Lisa Smith and husband, Chuck, of Durham; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Sammy Goss III, Billy Goss Jr., Matt Smith, Julius Goss, Joseph Goss and Johnny Goss. Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Goss, Alex Goss, Jack Goss and Phillip Nifong.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Flowers are acceptable, or donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016, re: William Howard Goss Kidney Transplant Fund.

Felton Grady Terrell
HURDLE MILLS – Mr. Felton Grady Terrell, 83, died Monday, June 3, 2013. He was a native of Orange County and was educated in the Orange County schools. His first employment was at Western Electric in Burlington. He was a member of the first line crew with REA Electric building power supply for rural areas. He was a custom home builder for 30 years. Mr. Terrell was the last of nine children.
Surviving are his wife, Rena T. Terrell; his daughter, Cheryl T. Tubiolo; two sons, Geryl O. Terrell (Wanda), and Richard Eugene Terrell; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Grady F. Terrell; and a grandson, Billy O. Terrell.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m., Thursday in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery by Pastor David Bolick. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday in Walker’s Funeral Home.  
Flowers are acceptable, or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Grady F. Terrell.  

Christine Long
ROXBORO - Christine Long, age 89, a precious Lady went to be with our loving Father on Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2013. Anyone that was blessed to know her, loved her dearly. She loved her family and friends deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe David Long; her sons, Carey (Tad) Long and Melvin Long; and her parents, Silas Carey Long and Dora Rebecca Stone Long.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Lois Dunkley; her beloved granddaughter, Beverly Wilborn; four grandsons, Todd Long (son), David Walker, Stephen Long, and Joe Long; four granddaughters, Deborah Whitfield, Rhonda Tuck, Amy Byrd, and Traci Owen; a very special niece, Connie Wilson Taylor; three sisters, Mattie Wilson, Marie Brinkley, and Eunice Pruitt; 16 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Brooks & White Chapel. Burial will be in the Olive Branch Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Carey Long, Scott Campbell, Wendell Wilborn, Joe Long, Mike West, and Donnie Pruitt.   
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at 2 p.m. on Thursday and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Beverly Wilborn, 174 Dirgie Mine Road.

Robert Stephen Masten Jr.
ST. JAMES, NC — Mr. Robert Stephen Masten Jr., 62, of St. James, NC, died on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
Steve was born on August 5, 1950 in Charlotte, NC to the late Robert and Ann Masten. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Business in 1972 where he met his loving wife of 41 years Deborah Dickson Masten. They married on June 11, 1972 and lived together in Valdese, NC and Durham, NC before relocating to St. James in 2005.
Steve began his career with Aetna Life & Casualty and then was an independent insurance agent for 25 years. For the past 13 years he was a project manager with Fair Isaacs Corporation. Steve was an early adaptor of computers and received a U.S. patent for a software program that measured peanut weights.
Steve loved golf and played at Appalachian State on scholarship. His lifetime hobbies also included tennis, photography, music, and travel. He was a lover of life and an incredibly generous and caring man.
Steve is survived by his wife, Debby; son, Rob of St. James; daughter, Ashley Masten Lech, son-in-law, John Paul and grandson, Andrew Lech of New York, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2202 Wrightsville Avenue, Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Member’s Club of St. James Plantation.

Mary Brinkley Simmons
CONCORD — Mary Brinkley Simmons passed at her home on June 4, 2013.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, June 7 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Gwyn officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall prior to the service. 
Mary was born May 5, 1933 in Durham, NC. She was one of five children born to the late Edward and Macie Estes Brinkley. She was a former member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Durham and most recently North Kannapolis Baptist Church. She graduated in 1951 from Bethesda High School in Durham and began a life long business management career. She was the office manager for Carpenter Chevrolet in Durham for 20 years. In 1971, Mary and Jim Simmons married and purchased Jim Simmons Pontiac Buick GMC and Toyota in Concord, where she was the comptroller. She was an active member of the business community until her retirement. Mary’s last years were spent enjoying her granddaughter Mackenzie who was the love of her life. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward L. Brinkley.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Robin Matthews; and granddaughter, Mackenzie Matthews of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Lucille B. Crabtree and Martha B. Ray; and brother, W.T. Brinkley Sr. and wife, Mary, all of Durham. She also has several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. Jim Simmons was also a very supportive member of her extended family.
