James Finley Blankenship, Jr.
DURHAM — James Finley Blankenship, Jr., 57, of Durham, NC, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at his home. Born in Chicago, IL and raised in Roxboro, NC, Jim was the son of James Finley Blankenship, Sr., and the late Hester Belle Parkes. In addition to his mother, a brother and a grandson precede him in death.
He was the sole proprietor of Blankenship Refrigeration, which served the Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Burlington and Mebane, NC, area. He prided himself on providing honest and reliable service to his many clients.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Bonus Blankenship, his father, James Finley Blankenship, Sr. and special friend Doris, his two sisters, Carolyn B. Hicks and her husband C.T. and Sharon Lynn Blankenship and her fiancé Mike, his brother Frederick Ray Blankenship and wife Pam, his son, James Finley Blankenship, III, a granddaughter and grandson, his loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, a host of friends, and pets.
Funeral services will e held at the chapel in Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Mebane Memorial Gardens in Mebane, NC.
Pallbearers will be James Blankenship, III, Dwight Soloman, Douglas Soloman, Dusty Blankenship, Henry Schroeder, Ben Zeigler and John Castagna. Alternates are Bryan Baylor and Ernie Hood.

Willie "Anthony" Bowman
DURHAM — Willie "Anthony" Bowman departed his life on February 23, 2014.
He leaves behind his dear mother, Ms. Helen P. Green, three sons, one brother and one sister.
A viewing will be held at Greater Ecclesia Worship Center on Friday at 11:00 am and services at 12 noon.

DURHAM — Queen Ella Hart, passed at her home in Durham. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Immanuel Temple, 2102 S. Alston Ave., Durham NC.
DURHAM — Shirley Nicholson, 60, departed this life on February 23, 2014.
She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Rev. Dr. T.C. Nicholson and Rev. B.M. Nicholson, one daughter, two sons, two grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers. Preceded in death by one sister.
Viewing will be held at Mt. Gilead Orange Church, 3512 Pleasant Green Rd, Durham, NC 27705 on Thursday, February 27 at 12 noon. Funeral services following at 1:00 pm.

Andrea Geggis Forsyth
MEBANE — Mrs. Andrea Geggis Forsyth, 46, of 803 South Fifth Street, Mebane, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her residence. She is the daughter of Catherine Leto, of Sarasota, Florida and the late Walter L. Geggis. She was born in Richmond, Virginia and spent most of her childhood in Maryland. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. She worked at Duke Regional Hospital as a sonographer for fifteen years of service. She was an avid lover of classic movies and television shows, especially I Love Lucy, and she enjoyed spending time volunteering at her son’s school, Audrey-Garrett. Surviving are her husband, Jeffrey Michael Forsyth, of the home; son, Connor Michael Forsyth, of the home; stepmother, Judith Geggis, of Centreville, Maryland; stepsisters, Kimberly Cantrell, of Linwood, New Jersey, and Diane Posko and husband Michael, of Pasadena, Maryland. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a stepfather, Peter Leto. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane with the Rev. Todd Martin officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane at 1308 South Third Street, Mebane, NC 27302. Ruby Keller Corbitt
OXFORD — Ruby Keller Corbitt passed away at home February 25, 2014. She was born in Oxford, NC on May 20, 1915 to parents Emma Orders and Claude Beard Keller. At the age of two, her mother died and her father later married Susie Critcher, who raised Ruby and her beloved brother, William Lee Keller.
Ruby graduated from Oxford High School in 1932. She attended the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, graduating in 1936 with a B.A. degree in biology and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
She went to Sunbury, NC after graduation to teach biology and French at Sunbury High School. While living and teaching in Sunbury, she met Rudolph Corbitt whom she married on September 12, 1941 in Oxford, NC.
Ruby and Rudolph lived in Sunbury, NC and Newport News, VA before moving to Oxford, NC in 1950. Ruby and Rudolph became active members of the Kinton Fork Community. She helped her husband to run Corbitt Service Station while raising their two children. She became a member of Hester Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for the rest of her life. She taught several Sunday School classes and served in many positions as a member of the Hester WMU, only stopping in her 90s. She was also a member of the Oxford Extension Club for many years.
“Mrs. Corbitt,” as she was affectionately known to most, was a loving wife, mother and friend to many. Loving life and helping others, she was the oldest member of Hester Baptist Church. Always teaching, she encouraged so many to stop and learn about nature, to recognize the countless wild birds around us, and to take time to help small animals. She loved her country, and truly modeled what a ‘good teacher’ should be.
Surviving family members are her son Robert L. Corbitt, his wife Denise, and her daughter Susan E. Corbitt of Oxford, NC, and her grandson Michael Cutts and his wife Emily of Raleigh,, NC.
Services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Hester Baptist Church, Oxford, NC by Rev. Alex Gallimore. Burial will follow in the Hester Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm, Friday, February 28 in the Hester Baptist Church Parlor and funeral services will follow at 2 pm in the Sanctuary.

Buddy Lee Crabtree
CEDAR GROVE — Buddy Lee Crabtree, 86, of 2300 Hurdle Mills Rd., Cedar Grove, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Born in Orange County, Mr. Crabtree was the son of the late Joseph Martin and Beulah Scott Crabtree. Mr. Crabtree retired from farming and was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Irvin Crabtree.
Mr. Crabtree is survived by his wife, Yvonne Brooks Crabtree; three children, Gary Lee Crabtree and wife Cynthia, of Cedar Grove, Denise Crabtree Strickland and husband David, of Princeton and Renee Crabtree Parker and husband Randall, of Hurdle Mills; three sisters and their spouses, Alene Holloway, of Hillsborough, Peggy and Wayne Holloway and Patsy and Tommy Clayton, all of Cedar Grove; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Five Forks Baptist Church by the Pastor Charles Churchill and the Pastor Tommy Willis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8PM, Wednesday at Five Forks Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Daryl Clayton, Lynn Holloway, Timmy Brooks, Michael Wade, Jared Strickland, Kendall Parker, and Martin Parker.

Jack W. Powell
FRANKLINTON —Jack W. Powell , 73, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Hospice of Wake County. Mr. Powell was born in Durham, son of the late Carl Vance Powell and the late Lillie Creel Powell. He was also predeceased by his former spouse, Pat Montgomery.
Mr. Powell attended ECU and then graduated from Oglethorpe University in ATL. He lived the majority of his adult life in Houston, TX and returned to NC after he retired from Namasco Steel. Jack was an avid sports fan pulling for ACC basketball and the Carolina Panthers. He also loved the outdoors, especially working in his yard.
Mr. Powell is survived by a son, Robert Powell (Sue); a daughter, Deidra Powell (Brian Bartz); and five grandchildren, Ashley Jacobs (Sanford), Rachel Powell, Stan Powell, Tyler Powell (Jennifer) and Courtney Johnson (Jimmy).
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Gregory C. Rose at Wake Heart and Vascular and also Dr. Sanjay Patel of Wake Forest Family Physicians. In addition they would like to send their appreciation to Ginger at Wake Heart and Vascular, and the rest of the medical staff at Rex Hospital.
Additionally the family would like to thank Dr. Jamshed Khan of the Palliative Care Team at Rex Hospital and Hospice at Wake Co. for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Powell.
