Barbara Jane Sayer Allen
DURHAM — Barbara Allen, age 86, departed her life on Feb 2, 2014 in Durham, North Carolina. Barbara was born to the late Ogareta and Roswell Seager and raised in West Virgina in and around Salem, where she attended high school and college.
Barbara is survived by her 3 children Gregory Sayer, Laura Sears and Victoria Brendlinger, her sister Janice Lockard, 10 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an older sister, Bettie Jean Seager.
Barbara celebrated 40 years of marriage with her husband Murray Sayer, who predeceased her in 1993. They met during college in New York, and married and raised their children in Yorktown Heights, NY. She enjoyed many activities with her family, highlighted by annual trips to a family camp in Maine. She and her husband enjoyed a strong local community life as well as travels throughout the US and abroad.
Barbara and Murray retired to North Carolina in 1987 where they continued to enjoy an active lifestyle including golf, socializing and travel. After Murray’s passing, Barbara remarried in 1994 to Jerry Allen until his passing in 2001. They lived together in Huntington, WV, where Barbara resided until returning to North Carolina in 2005.
Always committed to her spiritual life, Barbara was very engaged in church activities in all of her locales, including St. Mary’s of Mahopac, NY; St. Thomas of Sanford, NC; First United Methodist Church of Huntington, WV, and finally the Few Chapel of Croasdaile Village. Her passions included singing in the choir, alter guild, and volunteering her time with others. Barbara had a strong place in her heart for giving friendship to those with limited opportunities for personal interactions.
A memorial service was held February 8, 2014 at the Croasdaile Village Few Chapel. Ms. Allen’s ashes will be interred in Salem, WV at a later date. Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation or the various charities at Croasdaile Village.
Hazel James Miller

DURHAM — Hazel James Miller, 84, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born in Durham County to the late Perry Watson James and the late Ella White Bobbitt James. She was also predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Miller, Sr.; daughter, Susan Bridges; and sister, Dorothy James. Mrs. Miller retired as a secretary from Duke University.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Kirsten Beeker and husband, Edward, of Spartanburg, SC; son, Charles W. Miller, Jr. and wife, Jennifer Swanson, of Durham; and a grandson, Will Beeker of Spartanburg, SC.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, March 1 atMaplewoodCemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 N. Roxboro Rd., Durham, NC 27704.

Phillip T. “Jackie” Robbins
DURHAM — Phillip T. “Jackie” Robbins passed on February 6, 2014 after a long illness. He is survived by one son, Tekulve Fuller; his mother, Eunice Dunn; one brother, James Harris; two grandchildren and two aunts.
A memorial service will be held at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 2:00 P.M.
Ruby Lee Parker
DURHAM — Ruby Lee Parker, 95, of Hillsborough, passed from this world on Sunday, February 9, surrounded by her family. Ms. Parker is preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lee Parker, Sr., and two grandchildren, Johnny Dean Wall and Sheliah Denise Parker, two brothers, James Combs and Elmer Combs, and sister, Irene Marley.
She is survived by six children, Coleen Barbour of Durham, Lola Parker of Hillsborough, Doris Walker (Harold) of Rougemont, Linda Taylor (Bob) of Hillsborough, Mary Dean of Hillsborough, and Lee Parker (Teresa) of Hillsborough, twelve grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, February 15, in Walker’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Friday, February 14, in the funeral home and other times at her daughter’s home at 3201 Shamrock Road.
Pallbearers will be Brad Ciociola, Ricky Dean, Joshua DiPaulo, Kevin Nicholson, Reggie Parker, and Zachery Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Dickey, Mitchel Dean, Adam Nicholson, Jay Nicholson and Nathaniel Parker.
