DURHAM — Mr. James Garrett, age 82, passed on July 29, 2014, at the Carver Living Center. He was born in Granville County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Otis N. Garrett.
Survivors include his loving wife Beatrice P. Garrett and son T.J. Garrett.
Services will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Community Baptist Church, beginning at 11:00 a.m. A visitation with family and friends will take place at 10:00 a.m.

Earl "Tank" Riley
DURHAM — Mr. Earl "Tank" Riley, 60, of 1710 N. Alston Ave, Apt B, died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Duke Regional Hospital. His funeral service will be conducted at 1pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Burthey Funeral Chapel, 1510 Fayetteville St. Interment will follow in New Harris Grove Cemetery in Rougemont. The family will receive friends at the chapel on Wednesday from 12-1pm one hour prior to the service.
Albert Osborne Palmer
DURHAM — Albert Osborne Palmer, 75, of Rougemont, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Duke Regional Hospital, Durham. Born in Jonesboro, Mr. Palmer was the son of the late Robert Martin Palmer, Sr. and Mae Osborne Palmer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Gunter Palmer; and a brother, Robert Martin Palmer, Jr.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Marie Duncan Palmer; daughter, Kathy Palmer Howard and husband John, of Gallatin, TN; step-daughter, Sharon Latta Kinion and husband Wyn, of Williamston, NC; sister, Virginia Palmer Gillis and husband James, of Sanford; four grandchildren, Adam Palmer Howard, Zane Davis Howard, Hunter Thomas Kinion and Skyler Marie Kinion; and many special nieces and nephews.
Albert was a member of Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Action Sunday School Class, the Sylvan Seniors and the 4-C’s Bible Study Group.
He was a member of the Amran Shrine Temple and past president of the Ragtop Unit. He was a past president of the Triangle Shrine Club. He was also a 50 year member of the Durham Masonic Lodge #352.
Albert worked with Duke Energy Company for 37 years. After retirement, he was a past president and member of the Triangle Chapter of Duke Energy Retirees. He enjoyed golfing with the Bahama Golf Group as long as his health permitted. He also volunteered with the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program for 10 years.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Benny Oakes officiating. Following the burial, a memorial service will be held 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Bowden and Pastor Kathie Wilkinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Clements Funeral Home, Durham.

The family greatly appreciates the excellent care provided by the Duke Cardiology Team and Dr. Walter Fowler.
Albert was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was greatly loved and will be missed.

Antonio Lamont "Big Tony" Yates
DURHAM — Mr. Antonio Lamont "Big Tony" Yates, son of Alonzo Yates and Shelia Taylor-Yates departed this life on July 30, 2014. He leaves to cherish two brothers, two sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ, 1715 Athens Avenue, Durham, NC. The family visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
