Shirley Ann Davis Green
DURHAM — Shirley Ann Davis Green, 79, received her angel wings on July 28, 2014 at the Duke Hock Pavilion.
She leaves to cherish her memory two granddaughters, Anteea Janel Green, Ronetta Green Jordan (Donald); two great-grandchildren, Lamarius Green and Dorinda Jordan; one sister, Inez Williams.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00pm at New Calvary Baptist Church, Durham, with visitation at 12pm.

DURHAM — C.W. Mendenhall, 69, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Born April 27th, 1945 in Chatham County, he was the last of 3 children of Thelma and Charlie Mendenhall. He married on November 23, 1967 and together they settled down in Durham. C.W. started Mendenhall Mechanical Services Corp. in 1977 and for over 37 years he poured everything into the company and industry--training everyone he came in contact with to improve the industry as a whole. He passed away doing what he loved.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Donna Mendenhall; two daughters, Melody and Ronda Mendenhall; a son, Tyler Mendenhall; two sisters, Bettie Dahlberg and Barbara Straw; and two granddaughters, Haley and Kayla Ward, as well as a host of other friends and loved ones. His company and legacy will be continued through his family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Pastors Clay Stevens and Rick Dahlberg officiating. Burial will follow at Markham Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 1:45 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home. The family requests any prayers as they will need guidance in the coming weeks.

Nicholas “Nick” Ryan Musgrove
DURHAM — Nicholas “Nick” Ryan Musgrove, age 31, died Saturday, July 26, 2014. Nick is survived by his loving parents, Dawn and Chris Musgrove of Durham. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9th, at Sunrise Church in Chapel Hill. Clifford "Buckeye" G. Watson
DURHAM — Clifford "Buckeye" G. Watson of 610 Red Oak Ave., Durham, NC died unexpectedly Monday morning, July 28, 2014 at the home. He was born September 12, 1955 in Richmond County, Rockingham, NC.
He was 1974 graduate of Hillside.
Survivors include brother, Herman L. Watson (Paulette); four sisters, Myra Shaw Bartell (Sammy), Patricia Watson, Yolanda Watson, and Cheryl Robinson (Angelo); sister-in-law, Rosalind Watson; one aunt, Alberta R. Brown; two uncles, Clarence Rush and Eli Rush; one special adopted Mother, Rosa Hamilton; one special brother from another mother, Michael Brown (Connie); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ, 1715 Athens Ave., Durham. The family visitation will be held one prior to service and all other times at the home.

Mary Ellen Bierck
CHAPEL HILL — Mary Ellen Bierck of Chapel Hill, an accomplished musician and music educator, wife, and mother, died Monday after a long illness. She was 93.
An accomplished musician, she played violin for sixty years with the UNC Symphony Orchestra, while also playing in various other groups over the years, including string quartets. Mary Ellen served in numerous leadership roles with the Chapel Hill Music Teachers’ Association, and taught music for a time in the Durham City Schools. She often applied the Suzuki method of violin instruction, and taught both children and adults.
Teaching violin since her arrival in Chapel Hill in 1948, Mary Ellen Bierck became well known in Chapel Hill for her steadfast dedication to teaching violin and to music instruction in general. Her reputation for compassionate instruction and musical excellence became widely known to the generations who studied under her, and to their families, making her a household name in local music circles.
She was born and raised in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the Rev. W. Clyde and Ethyl Reed Barnes. She attended Grove City College, transferring from those more bucolic surroundings to graduate from Carnegie Institute of Technology, now Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh. Later, she earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from UNC. Succumbing to his charms, she married the late Professor Harold A. Bierck, Jr., a Professor of Latin American History at UNC-Chapel Hill, who passed away in 1989.
She is survived by two sons, Barnes Reed Bierck of Chapel Hill, and Richard Harold Bierck of Princeton, N.J., and three grandsons: Eric Richard Bierck and Jonathan Barnes Bierck, and Robert Harold Bierck.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to UNC Hospice and the UNC Department of Music. Services will be held Saturday, August 2, at 1 PM at the University Presbyterian Church at 209 E. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
Juan Maurice Corders
FAYETTEVILLE — Juan Maurice Corders, 59, of 2012 Seabrook Drive, Fayetteville, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Cape Fear Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 12 noon at the Chapel of Herring Funeral Care & Cremations in Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Corders of Durham; sons, Juan Marcus Corders of Charlotte and Carlos Samford of Lithonia, GA; parents, Retired CSM John and Hazel Corders of Fayetteville; brothers, William Corders and Antonio Corders both of Fayetteville and Christopher Corders of Monroe, NC.
