Wallace Edward Burke, II
DURHAM — Mr. Wallace “Wally” Edward Burke, II, 33, of Durham, left this earth Wednesday, May 28, 2014. He was born in Naples, FL and lived in FL, WV, and PA with his family before moving to NC. He was a 1998 graduate of Northern High School where he played soccer. He was an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow and of the Catholic Faith. He worked in the hospitality and cable fields. Wally enjoyed hiking, geology, music, dancing, birds of prey, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Wallace E. and Marie P. Burke of Durham; sisters, Brandi Marie Burke-Hicks (Gregory), Michelle Elizabeth Dafoe (Christopher); brother, Robert George Burke; niece, Charlotte Rose Burke; and nephew, Blake Edward Dafoe.
The family will receive visitors at their home on Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, after 4pm at 618 Wanda Ridge Dr., Durham. A Celebration of Life will be held at 618 Wanda Ridge Dr., Durham at 3pm on Sunday, June 8 (Wally’s 34th birthday). In lieu of flowers, the family requests prayers. Memorial donations may be made to the Eno River Association at www.enoriver.org or 4404 Guess Road, Durham, NC 27712. This will help preserve the land and the environment that Wally loved.

Charles C. Cogdell IV
DURHAM — Bishop Charles C. Cogdell IV, 70, of Durham, NC, died Thursday, June 5th, 2014, the son of the late Mildred and Charles C. Cogdell III.
He is survived by his loving wife (Linda Cogdell) and his two sons, Charles C. Cogdell V (Delisha) of Wendell, NC, Carlton Lamont Cogdell of Durham, NC; one daughter, Lynette Johnson (Chris), Greensboro, NC; and three grandchildren.
Services are entrusted to Scarborough and Hargett Funeral Home.

James Macklon Goss
DURHAM — James Macklon Goss, 62, departed his life on June 5, 2014.
He is one of three children born to James McClain Goss and Georgia Ella Sanders. He is survived by his wife Lucinda Allen-Goss, two daughters, two sons, one sister, nine granddaughters, two grandsons, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
Memorial service will be at Mt. Zoar Baptist Church, 2400 Cheek Rd., Durham, NC, on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

Diana Burt Legrant
DURHAM — Diana Burt Legrant, 63, departed her life on June 2, 2014.
She leaves behind her dear husband, John Legrant, two daughters, two sons, twenty-one grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers living and two deceased.
A viewing will be held at Faith Assembly Christian Center on Tuesday at 12:30 pm and funeral service at 1:00 pm.

Waymon Leon Burwell, Sr.
ROXBORO — Waymon Leon Burwell, Sr., age 80, of 924 Kappa Drive in Roxboro, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014.
Waymon Leon Burwell, Sr. is survived by his wife, Willie Bivens Burwell, and his son, Waymon Burwell, Jr., in addition to a host of additional relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8th from 1 PM until 7 PM at Hester, Whitted and Daye Funeral Service in Roxboro. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Shady Hill Baptist Church in Roxboro. Rev. Dr James Richmond will officiate. Burial will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery in Roxboro, NC.

Robert Kurt Hales Sr.
TIMBERLAKE — Mr. Robert Kurt Hales Sr. died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Duke University Medical Center. He was born in Wake County to the late J.T. Hales and Ethel Mae Johnson Hales. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Hales. The loves of his life were his family, shag dancing (Eno Beach Shag Club), fishing (Reel Outdoors Buddies), planting a garden, building Adirondack chairs, and listening to good music. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served as a boatswain mate.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna; two sons, Robert Kurt Hales, Jr. and wife Kristie, Kevin Thomas Hales and wife Tammy; two daughters, Kristy H. Thompson, Kimberly H. Capps and husband Phillip, one brother, Bobby G. Hales and wife Faye; sister-in-law, Rose B. Hales; special brother-in-law, David A. Sauls and wife Sari; six grandchildren, Brian Thompson, Lauren Thompson, Jacob Hales, Elijah Hales, Ashton Hales, and Weston Hales; many friends, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clements Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
