Douglas Lee Cameron
DURHAM — Douglas Lee Cameron, 62, peacefully passed away on June 3, 2014 at Duke Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Annie Ruth Williams; two daughters; one son; three sisters, Angela Carrington, Priscilla Carrington and Jacqueline Haley.
Services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Mount Calvary United Church of Christ, 1715 Athens Ave., Durham, NC, 12 noon visitation and 1:00 service.

Sandra Addison Haigler
DURHAM — Mrs. Sandra Addison Haigler, of 2544 Burton Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her husband and children on Wednesday, June 04, 2014.
Mrs. Haigler was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Hugh Addison and Julia Denson McDaniel. She retired after 20 years from Northern Telecom. What she loved the most was making memories with her family and being “Granny.” She was a member of Gorman Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ronnie Haigler; son, Scott Haigler and wife, Sam of Bahama; daughter, Amy Hicks and husband, Mark of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Jack Dylan Haigler and Tiffany Marie Hicks; brother, Danny Addison and wife, Carol of Durham; sisters, Eleanor Deering and husband, Chuck of Durham and Linda Langdon and husband, Rick of Cary; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and her Hibernia Lake friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Griffin, and nephew, Jeff Addison.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gorman Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Daniel Tilley and Dr. C. J. Bordeaux. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Kelly Hatley, Jamie Haigler, Kyle Hatley, Charles Flamion, Ronnie Williams, Sr. and Mike Phillips. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Addison.

Mabel Couch Carpenter Keith
DURHAM — Mrs. Mabel Couch Carpenter Keith, 95, of Durham, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.
Mrs. Keith was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late John Willie Couch and Lola Perry Couch. She graduated from Oak Grove High School. She was a secretary at Oak Grove School in the 1950s and retired from Duke University Medical Center. She was a member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church where she served as church clerk. She loved to read. She was preceded in death by first husband, Earl Carpenter, Sr.; two brothers, Dennis and Jesse Couch; four sisters, Ruth Couch, Elizabeth Carpenter, Bessie Green and Mildred White.
She is survived by her son, Earl Edward Carpenter and wife, Jackie of Durham; daughter, Nancy C. Sawaya of Durham; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ed Denton and Dr. Fred Williams. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., before the service at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Nancy Sawaya. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
William Dwight Mack, Sr.
DURHAM — William Dwight Mack, Sr., age 65, of James St. passed at his home on Friday, May 30, 2014. He was born in Durham, NC, and was the son of the late Joe T. and Ida Mae Peaks Mack. Dwight was educated in the Durham Public School System, graduating from Hillside High School in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1969 and was Honorably Discharged in 1972. Mr. Mack was married to the former Brenda Butler; to this union one son was born. Dwight was a member of the TROSA management staff. He played a huge role in getting the Durham based non-profit up and off the ground. They say he had a hand in the construction of every brick building on their site. A building was named in his honor as a legacy to how impactful he was in the growth and development of the organization.
Surviving to cherish his memory are: one son, William Dwight Mack, Jr. of Gastonia, NC; one sister, Mrs. Diane Mack Davis (husband, Maxie) of Chesterfield, VA; and four grandchildren.

Carolyn Yvonne Alston Richardson
DURHAM — Carolyn Yvonne Alston Richardson, 65, of Durham, passed on June 1, 2014 at Duke Durham Regional Hospital. Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 7th, at Ecclesia House of Prayer, 601 N. Ruth Beasley Upchurch
DURHAM — Mrs. Ruth Beasley Upchurch, 96, of Croasdaile Village passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. She was born on May 16, 1918 in Durham County and attended Durham City Schools, graduating from Durham High School in 1936. She retired from Durham County Governmental Offices in 1980 after 40 years of service. A lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church, she loved singing in the choir. Known as “Aunt Ruth,” she worked with the youth of Calvary Church for many years. She spent many of her retirement years as a volunteer at Durham Regional Hospital and with the Durham County Rescue Society. “Once she made a friend, she kept a friend.”
Mrs. Upchurch was preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Gray Beasley; father, W.A. “Donnie” Beasley; husband, Wallace H. Upchurch; grandson, Daniel Scott Winfrey; and three brothers.
She is survived by her son, W. Gray Upchurch and companion, Donna Moss; daughter, Nancy Dixon and husband, Lad; granddaughter, Jennifer Koehler and husband, Doug; grandson, Jay Upchurch and wife, Laura; granddaughter, Christie Dixon and fiancé, John; granddaughter, Michelle Wheeler and husband, Judd; daughter-in-law, Pat Dunford and husband, Greg; niece, Sandra Beasley; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 304 E. Trinity Ave. in Durham at 11 a.m., Saturday. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery where Ruth will be laid to rest beside her husband, Wallace H. Upchurch. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m., Friday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Fredrick Anthony White
DURHAM — Mr. Fredrick Anthony White, affectionately known as “Ant,” born October 12, 1956, went to his eternal rest on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Hospice of Durham Facility.
Anthony was the son of the late Levester and Elma Nunnally White. Anthony was educated in the Durham Public School System where he graduated from Hillside High School, Class of 1974. He was also an alumnus of Shaw University, Class of 1978.
A memorial service will be held, Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 NC Highway 55, Durham, NC 27713 at 5:00 pm.
Deborah Rae Pifer Shearin
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Deborah Rae Pifer Shearin, 62, of 2032 Walker Ave., Burlington, died at the Hospice Home on June 4th, 2014. A native of Durham, she was the wife of Wallace Millard Shearin and the daughter of Mildred Morgan Pifer and the late Robert Theodore Alston Pifer. Deborah was a music teacher and a special educator in the Alamance Burlington School system for 33 years. In her retirement, she provided music to preschool children and taught education classes at Alamance Community College. Deborah was a devoted member of First Reformed United Church of Christ where she was a member of the choir and of Circle #4. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her brothers Martin and Ted Pifer, her daughter Laura Rae Brown and husband Joe, her son Robert Millard Shearin and wife Lauren, and her granddaughter Morgan Rae Brown. Deborah fought a brave and long battle with breast cancer. Her family, her church, and teaching were the greatest joys of her life.
The memorial service will be held at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Burlington, NC on Sunday, June 8th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Phillip Myers with the family receiving friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
To honor Deborah’s lifelong commitment to education, a scholarship has been established through the Alamance Community College Foundation. In addition, donations can also be made in her memory to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center or the Hospice Home of Alamance County. ROXBORO — James Andrew Dickey, 91, of 3550 Oxford Road, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
Mr. Dickey is survived by his son, Donald Dicky & wife Sandra, of Roxboro; two granddaughters, Michelle Davis & Jeremy, of Roxboro, and Mary Leigh Land & Michael, of Concord, VA.

Page Webb Saunders
RALEIGH — Mrs. Page Webb Saunders, 89, formerly of Durham, N.C., died peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on Monday evening, June 2, 2014. Mrs. Saunders was born January 25, 1925 to Raymond and Gertrude Webb. Page spent all of her youth and early life in Durham. She married her Durham High School sweetheart, J.C. Saunders, Jr., and remained married until Mr. Saunders' death in 1991. Both she and her late husband were active members of the Durham community through church and civic organizations. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Saunders was predeceased by her son, Randall Page Saunders, and by her three siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra S. Coats (husband Carl), granddaughters Amy C. Butts (husband Dave) and Katherine C. Tole (husband Paul), and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Butts and William Joseph Tole, all of Raleigh. The family will have a private graveside service with the Rev. Hope Vickers officiating.
