DURHAM

Joyce Clayton
DURHAM — Joyce Clayton was born and raised in Durham County. She was educated in the Durham County schools and attended Wingate College. She served her family and community as a “stay-at-home mom" and later worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC. She was an active member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and the Hudson Ladies’ Sunday school class.
Joyce was married to Grover Clayton for 64 years. He preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Griffin and her husband, Mike, of Hillsborough; her son, Rev. Steve Clayton and his wife, Alice, of Wilson; grandsons, William Clayton, Michael Clayton and his wife, Victoria; step grandsons, Robert Griffin, and his wife, Veronica, and Wade Griffin; and sister, Francis Hunt Johnson of San Bernadino, CA.
Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by her parents, the late William Madison Hunt and her mothers, Jennie Kerr Hunt and Margaret Clark Hunt; a brother, Norman M. Hunt; and a sister, Hilda Hunt Donnelly.
The family extends a special word of thanks to the staff of Brookshire Nursing Center, Hillsborough, NC for the professional and compassionate care provided to our mother.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 13th, at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. Rev. Rich Goodier will officiate. Visitation will precede the service, from 1:00 – 1:45pm. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Church cemetery.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials in Joyce’s honor may be made to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 4511 Old NC 10, Durham, NC 27705.

Shirley Ann Crabtree Coe
DURHAM — Mrs. Shirley Ann Crabtree Coe, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 9, 2014, with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Coe was born September 10, 1932 to Mattie C. Whitaker in Durham, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Odell Coe. Until her declining health, she was still an active member of Greystone Church. She also still worked part-time at the family heating and air conditioning business.
Mrs. Coe was truly a remarkable woman who always opened her home with love and always put everyone first before herself. She loved cooking, shopping, decorating the house and always made every occasion and holiday special for her family and close friends. She will be truly missed by everyone whom she touched.
Surviving family are her loving daughters, Deborah C. Marsh (Roland) of Durham, NC, Cathy C. Dickey (Roy Birdzell) of Virginia Beach, VA; sons, Rodney F. Coe and Mark W. Coe of Durham, NC and Gregory S. Coe and partner, Juanita (JoJo) Ponsones, of Raleigh, NC; her beloved Havaneses, Sushi and Mango; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Greystone Church with Pastor Brian Barndt officiating. A private burial is planned.
A special thanks to Cathy and Roy for all of their love and support in taking care of mom in her final days; and a special thanks to JoJo for all of his nursing skills and helping mom as well.

Narda Decker
DURHAM — Narda Decker, 82, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home in Durham.
A native of Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of Earl S. Baldwin and Anna E. Baldwin. She graduated from St. Luke Hospital’s School of Nursing in New York, NY. She spent her entire career as a Registered Nurse dedicated to caring for others. She was last employed at Duke Hospital in the Apheresis Lab.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she passed on her love of books and lifelong learning to all who knew her. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald L. Decker, and her daughters, Carol Durkin (Kevin), Diane Decker, Amy Dodd (Bill), Lisa Shaffer (Walter), and Joanne Terrell (Bryan). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric Blegen (Stacey), Ryan Dodd (and fiancé Kirby Butler), Philip Dodd, Nathaniel Dodd, Kelsey Dodd, Lauren Shaffer, Andrew Terrell (Tiffany), and by a great-grandson, Titus Terrell. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Barbara Keyes, and a brother-in-law, Jim Gennarelli. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law, Linda Gennarelli, and a beloved grandson, Zachary Shaffer.
The family would like to thank Duke Hospice for their excellent care, and also Providing Loving Care of Pembroke, NC. She was blessed to be cared for by Debbie and Vanessa in her final year. Their kind, patient, and gentle help allowed Mrs. Decker to pass peacefully at home surrounded by her family. We are forever in their debt.
A private memorial service will be held for the family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ASPCA or to Doctors Without Borders.

William George Georgas
DURHAM — William (Bill) George Georgas passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Born in Brampton, Ontario, he was 68. He moved first to Midland, Texas in 1982 and then to Durham in 1986.
Surviving are his 2 sons, Jonathan (Rachael) Georgas of Charleston S.C., Peter Georgas of Durham; 2 daughters, Lisa (Dan) Georgas Chubb, Sandra (Darin) Georgas Warren, both of Vancouver, British Columbia; 2 grandsons, Jacob Georgas of Belton, Texas, Jarid Warren of Vancouver, British Columbia; 2 brothers, Peter (Sharyn) Georgas of Burlington, Ontario, Jim (Sara) Georgas of Mississauga, Ontario; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at a later date.

Roger Bruce Turner
DURHAM — Roger Bruce Turner, 70, departed his life on March 10, 2014.
He leaves behind his dear wife, Nannie Turner, four brothers and two sisters.
A viewing will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at 12:30 pm and funeral following at 1:00 pm.

Lloyd Lemuel Young
DURHAM — Lloyd Lemuel Young, 87, of Durham died on Monday, March 10, 2014. He was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Lernie L. Young and Elsie Mae Watkins Young. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He attended Sherron Acres First Freewill Baptist. He was a charter member of Durham Power Squadrons, Coast Guard Auxiliary - Life Member, American Legion Post 7. He loved boating and fishing. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Fitch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys Stallings Young; one brother, Robert L. Young and wife Deborah of Durham; one sister, Martina Y. Morgan of Hillsborough; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers send donations to charities of your choice. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.


ORANGE

Mitch Lloyd
HILLSBOROUGH — Mitch Lloyd, lifelong resident of Orange County, died in his sleep at his home outside of Hillsborough, NC on Saturday, February 22, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Orange High School, in Hillsborough, NC at 2pm.
He is survived by his wife Lillie H. Lloyd, daughter Azilee, granddaughters Jane and Charlotte, as well as extended family and numerous friends. All who knew him will feel his absence: Mitch will be sorely missed.
Mitch was not one for lengthy obituaries. He was, however, an avid volunteer and a good neighbor who loved working to make his community a better place. He had a great sense of humor and was blessed with a genuine sense of purpose. An active member of First Baptist Church Hillsborough, Eagle Lodge No. 19, and the Hillsborough Exchange Club, Mitch's passion for helping others permeated his entire long life.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mitch's name to any of his most strongly supported local organizations: Orange High School FFA, Orange Congregations in Mission, Exchange Club of Hillsborough , Oxford Orphanage, and Duke Health Community Hospice. Better still, do what Mitch did and donate your time and talents to them.

Yvette Lunsford Cue
ROXBORO — Mrs. Yvette Lunsford Cue, age 58, a resident of 1484 Nelson Loop Rd., Roxboro, NC, passed in Person Memorial Hospital Sunday night, March 9, 2014, following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Person County and a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 824 Durham Rd., Roxboro, NC.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Cue of the home; two sons, Sterling Cue and Savion Cue, both of the home; her father, Eddie Lunsford, Jr. of Roxboro; two sisters, Anita Lunsford and Valerie Lunsford-Winbush, both of Roxboro; four aunts, Lula D. Melvin, Mary Pettiford, Annie Maude Goods (James), and Quincey Nelson Eaves; two uncles, Robert Lunsford and Leonidas Nelson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Nelson Family Cemetery, 2555 Allensville Rd., Roxboro, NC 27574, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Clay officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 14 Main Circle, Roxboro, NC 27573. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
