DURHAM
Shirley Ann Crabtree Coe

DURHAM — Mrs. Shirley Ann Crabtree Coe, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday evening March 9, 2014 with her loving family by her side.  Mrs. Coe was born September 10, 1932 to Mattie C. Whitaker in Durham, NC.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Odell Coe.  Until her declining health, she was still an active member of Greystone Church. She also still worked part time at the family heating and air conditioning business.
Mrs. Coe was truly a remarkable woman who always opened her home with love and always put everyone first before herself. She loved cooking, shopping, decorating the house and always made every occasion and holiday special for her family and close friends. She will be truly missed by everyone who she touched.
Surviving family are her loving daughters, Deborah C. Marsh (Roland) of Durham, NC, Cathy C. Dickey (Roy Birdzell) of Virginia Beach, VA; sons, Rodney F. Coe and Mark W. Coe of Durham, NC and Gregory S. Coe and partner, Juanita (JoJo) Ponsones, of Raleigh, NC; her beloved Havaneses, Sushi and Mango; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Greystone Church with Pastor Brian Barndt officiating. A private burial is planned.
A special thanks to Cathy and Roy for all of their love and support in taking care of mom in her final days; and a special thanks to JoJo for all of his nursing skills and helping mom as well.

Narda Jean Decker
DURHAM — Narda Decker, 82, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home in Durham.
A native of Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of Earl S. Baldwin and Anna E. Baldwin. She graduated from St. Luke Hospital’s School of Nursing in New York, NY. She spent her entire career as a Registered Nurse dedicated to caring for others. She was last employed at Duke Hospital in the Apheresis Lab.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she passed on her love of books and lifelong learning to all who knew her. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald L. Decker, her daughters Carol Durkin ( Kevin ), Diane Decker, Amy Dodd ( Bill ), Lisa Shaffer ( Walter ), and Joanne Terrell ( Bryan ). She is also survived by her grandchildren Eric Blegen ( Stacey ), Ryan Dodd (and fiancé Kirby Butler ), Philip Dodd, Nathaniel Dodd, Kelsey Dodd, Lauren Shaffer, Andrew Terrell ( Tiffany ), and by a great-grandson Titus Terrell. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Barbara Keyes, and a brother-in-law Jim Gennarelli. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law Linda Gennarelli, and a beloved grandson Zachary Shaffer.
The family would like to thank Duke Hospice for their excellent care, and also Providing Loving Care of Pembroke, NC. She was blessed to be cared for by Debbie and Vanessa in her final year. Their kind, patient, and gentle help allowed Mrs. Decker to pass peacefully at home surrounded by her family. We are forever in their debt.
A private memorial service will be held for the family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ASPCA, or to Doctors Without Borders.

Cletis Alton Faucette
DURHAM — Cletis Alton Faucette, 82, departed his life on March 9, 2014.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary Brooks Faucette, three daughters, one grandchild, one sister, four brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Holloway Memorial Funeral Home, Durham, NC, on March 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm with visitation at noon.

Donna Delle McDaniel
DURHAM — Donna Delle McDaniel, 62, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at her home after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer. She was born in Alabama to the late Ira Otis Ferrell and the late Rubie Yates Ferrell. She retired from Sessoms & Rogers, P.A. of Durham as a Paralegal. She was an active member of Chapel Hill Bible Church. After retirement, Donna enjoyed coaching for Team In Training, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by her husband of 20 years, Steve McDaniel; daughter, Heather Lampe and husband, Chad with their children, Reaghan, Cannon, Piper & Stryker; daughter, Erin Small and husband, William with their children, Taylor & Baylee; sister, Lynna Oglesby; nieces, Kim & Stacey.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Lillian Troxler Barber

HILLSBOROUGH — Lillian Troxler Barber, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, NC.
Lillian was born in Rockingham County on Jan. 24, 1925. She attended Bethany High School. She married her WW II pen pal, Layton Barber and lived in the Sumner community until the death of her husband in 2005. She grew up on a farm and always wanted the farm life. She was employed at American Tobacco, Burlington Industries, and Kaiser Roth. She was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church for 67 years. Her greatest joy was her extended family.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Troxler and Carrie Bailey Troxler, her husband Layton Barber; sister, Margaret Booker of Carthage, NC; brothers, Lonnie Troxler of Robbins, NC and Harvey Troxler of Summerfield, NC. She is survived by her son; Phillip W.Barber and wife Donna of Mebane, NC; grandson, Phillip D. Barber of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Charity Barber of Carthage, NC, Evelyn Upchurch of Ramseur, NC, Virginia Verschoore of Milan, Ill. and brother John Henry Troxler of Carthage, NC along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Donna and the staff at Brookshire Nursing Center for the wonderful care Lillian was given for the past seven years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial to follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

Marvin D. Carson
CHAPEL HILL — Marvin D. Carson, 75, died peacefully on Sunday March 9, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Carson was born in Orange Co., son of the late William Lemuel Carson and Nina Johnson Carson. Marvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne Carson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carson worked at UNC for 33 years as a delivery truck driver. Marvin loved the Tar heels and was a devoted Carolina fan. Some of Marvin’s favorite hobbies were playing golf and watching old western movies.
The family will receive friends at Walkers Funeral Home in Chapel Hill Tuesday, March 11 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted on March 12, 2014 at 11:00am at Rock Spring Baptist church, 29 Rock Spring Church Rd. Pittsboro, NC, with internment to follow at Rock Spring Cemetery. Clay Jacob “Butch” Maulden

WAKE FOREST — Clay Jacob “Butch” Maulden, Jr., 70, of Wake Forest, died Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was born in Durham County and was the son of the late Pattie Elizabeth McBroom Maulden and Clay Jacob Maulden, Sr. Butch was a graduate of Durham High School and of Lees-McRae College. He also studied at the University of Minnesota and was retired from Kiddie Aerospace as an Aerospace Engineer after 30 years of service. Butch was a veteran of the US Army and was an avid Duke fan. He loved genealogy and recently finished working on his family history.
A celebration of Butch’s life will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, March 11, 2014 at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
Butch is survived by his wife of 29 years, Gale Ball Maulden; children, Patrick Maulden and wife, Aimee, of Ohio, Allison Maulden of Alabama, Jamie Maulden of Durham, and C. Jacob Maulden, III of Wake Forest; sisters, Gretchen Williford and husband, Charles, of Burlington, Patsy Maulden McKinney and husband, Mike, of Burlington, and Jo Anne Reed and husband, Randy, of Timberlake; 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

William J. Waddell

PROSPECT, KY — William J. Waddell, M.D. of Prospect, KY passed on Sunday afternoon, March 2, 2014.
He was born in Commerce, GA on March 16, 1929 and educated at the University of North Carolina receiving a B.A. in chemistry and an M.D. degree.  Immediately after graduating he began his academic career in the Department of Pharmacology at the Unversity of North Carolina.  Later he moved to the University of Kentucky and finally served as chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Louisville for twenty years.
He belonged to numerous scientific societies and served as President of the Association for Medical School Pharmacology and the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Society of Toxicology.  Over his career he consulted with many drug and chemical companies, served as an expert witness on toxic tort cases and served on many national committees.  He was a visiting Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Showa University in Tokyo for six months where he made lasting friends.
Bill, along with his wife, enjoyed traveling and for many years much of the travel was planned around scientific meetings of invitations to give lectures.  However, after Bill retired, traveling with friends to many parts of the world was an annual event.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John Daniel Waddell and Lillian Vollrath Waddell; sister Ellen Johnson Dezzutto; brother, Dan and son, Jim.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Marlowe; sons Bill, Jr. (Jane) and Martin (Anne) and daughter Amy Cannon; five grandchildren, Joe( Anna), Matt (Stacey) and Robert (Sarah) Waddell, Alison and Christopher Cannon; seven great-grandchildren, Aurora, Shane, Evie, Emma, Sydney and Gavin Waddell and Elizabeth Cannon; and sister, Cynthia Armstrong.
The family wishes to thank his dedicated caregiver, Martha Vokoun, and the staff on the 4Park at Baptist Health for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held on March 22, 2014 at Pearson’s Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY at 3:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm.
