ANDERSON, S.C. - Annette M. Carden, 46, of East Geer St. in Durham passed away Saturday night in Anderson, S.C. Ms. Carden was born in Durham, the daughter of Carolyn Cotton Carden and the late William Tex Carden. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and worked at Wal-Mart. Annette loved animals, and working with the children in her church and most of all she loved the Lord.

Mrs. Carden is survived by her two brothers, Todd Carden and Tammy, of Durham, and Joe Carden and wife, Brett, of Hartwell Ga.; sister, Holly Napier and husband, Wayne, of Anderson, S.C.; niece, Victoria Napier; and nephew, Dawson Carden.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham and other times at the mother's home at 2803 Beck Rd., Durham. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

COGHILL
DURHAM - Mr. David Ashley Coghill, 44, of 508 Parkview Dr., died early Friday at his home. David was a member of Guess Road Baptist Church.

David is survived by his parents, William Roberts Coghill and Patricia Gupton; a brother, W. Richard Coghill; and a sister, Lisa Coghill Hall; and maternal grandparents, Ed and Violet White

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Guess Road Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Henderson. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. .at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. Memorial contributions may be made to Duke Community Hospice Services, 4321 Medical Park Dr., Ste 101, Durham, NC.

GREEN
DURHAM - Mrs. Daisy Jones Green, 88, of 2711 Marlin Drive, died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Rose Manor Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bell-Yeager Free Will Baptist Church, 128 E. Cornwallis Road. Family visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial at Glennview Memorial Park, Lakeside Section. The viewing is from noon to 6 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Parlor.

She had been an elevator operator at the Snow Building and had been a member of Mount Calvary United Church of Christ.

Survivors include four children, Sheila Madison-Reed, Deborah Perry, Nikya Baxter and Jeffrey Jones.

HARGROVE
HENDERSON - Carnell Hargrove, 45, of 1261 Americal Road, Lot 14, died Thursday at Maria Parham Medical Center.

He was an employee of Royal Home Fashions.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.

He is survived by a wife, Cynthia Williams Hargrove; daughter, Shadonna Nakay Hargrove; two sons, Carnell Alexander Hargrove and Omar Govan Hargrove; seven brothers, Samuel Hargrove, Kenny Hargrove, Donnell Hargrove, Ronnie Hargrove, Louis Hargrove, David Hargrove and Jerome Hargrove; and one sister, Mary Ruth Barton.

The family will receive visitors at the residence. Viewing will be Monday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

HIGHT
HENDERSON - Robert Stubbs Hight, 79, of 1725 Parker Lane, Henderson, died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Mr. Hight was a partner in the Hight, Faulkner and Care Law Office. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Irvin Hight; daughter, Julia Hight Nickens; two sons, Robert Stubbs Hight Jr. and Martin Irvin Hight; and sister, Ann Hight Brafford.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536.

JEFFCOAT
OXFORD - Monroe Jeffcoat, 79, a resident of 100 East Dale Drive, died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at his home.

A native of Columbus, S.C., he was the the son of the late Creed and Beatrice Knotts Jeffcoat. He was a former deacon of Corinth Baptist Church, a veteran ofthe Korean Conflict and retired from Certainteed Corporation.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corinth Baptist Church by Pastor Ken Warfield and Rev. Neil Woodlief. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Roberson Jeffcoat, of the home; four daughters, Maxine J. Cox (Randy), Debbie J. Ramsey (Larry), Linda J. Henley (Danny), all of Oxford, Mary J. Weary (Ronnie) of Grassy Creek; a son, John M. Jeffcoat (Elaine) of Kernersville; a brother, Rudolph Jeffcoat, of Winnsboro, S.C., 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary Collins; and a grandson, Gregg Alan Ramsey, preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

LYONS JR.
OXFORD - Chester "Chet" Lyons Jr., 36, of 104 Old Baker St., died Thursday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at New Hope Granville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Hawley Family Cemetery.

Other survivors include three children, DeChe' Jordan, Nyzeria Fleming and Yorel Fleming; two sisters, Samanthan Lyons-Kittrell and Nicole Lyons; one brother, Miles Lyons; and maternal grandmother, Magnolia Chavis Hawley.

The family will receive visitors at the residence. Arrangements by Wright Funeral Home.

PEARCE
DURHAM - Mr. Ron 'Stonewall' Pearce, of Durham, died Saturday at his home on Paragon Circle. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Pearce was the owner of Stonewall Heating and Air.

Mr. Pearce is survived by his two sons, Ronnie Dunlap and Michael Pearce; sister, Judy Creecy; and four brothers, Curtis Pearce, Johnny Pearce, Don Pearce and David Pearce.

Funeral services will be held at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home in Durham Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans, 2000 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham.

The family is being assisted in Durham by Clements Funeral Service Inc.

PICKETT
DURHAM - Mrs. Betsy Ellen Rigsbee Pickett, 82, a resident of the Smithfield Senior Manor, 211 Evergreen Lane in Smithfield, died there Friday morning.

Born October 27, 1925, in Durham, Mrs. Pickett was the daughter of the late Willie Lee and Ida Thompson Rigsbee. She was a homemaker who was deeply devoted to her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved family gatherings, and always put her family and friends first. Her husband, Linwood Brandon Pickett, died October 14, 1989. Mrs. Pickett moved to Smithfield eleven years ago to reside in the retirement community.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy P. Paynter of Durham, Patsy P. Gaskins of Raleigh and Ida P. Davis of Wilmington; two sons, Earl L. Pickett, of Durham, and Michael Scott Pickett, of Timberlake; eleven grandchildrern, four great-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Pickett was preceded in death by two children, Howard Roy Pickett and Dollie Ellen Ferrell

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Markham Memorial Gardens, the Rev. Everette J. Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and other times at the home of Earl Pickett, 1215 Summerville Lane in Durham.

SHAW
HOUSTON - John Shaw passed away on the morning of January 31, 2008, in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Betty Shaw, in 1990; his parents, Herbert and Ada Shaw and his brother, Geoffrey Shaw. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Cahill; his four children, Jennifer Fostel, Peter Shaw (wife Kathie Kelly), Michael Shaw and Stephen Shaw (wife Melissa); his eight grandchildren, Robin Fostel, Lindsey Fostel, Allison Shaw, Julian Kelly, Corrie Shaw, Philip Shaw, Pauline Shaw and Ethan Shaw; niece Prudence Newitt and nephews Nigel and Jeremy Shaw.

A proud native of Sheffield, England, he was educated in Sydney Sussex College, Cambridge University, where he ultimately received his Ph.D. degree. There, he met Elizabeth (Betty) Wroe, whom he married in 1949. They immigrated to Columbus, Ohio, in 1949, where he joined the Physics Department of the Ohio State University. He taught physics and actively performed research in upper atmospheric spectroscopy at OSU until his retirement in 1988. He was one of the first physicists to establish the harmful effects of hydrofluorocarbons on the earth's ozone layer, including a successful instrument research mission onboard the Space Shuttle Orbiter. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1974. He moved to Durham in 2004, to be closer to his daughter.

John was a lifelong folk dancer. With Betty, he founded an English Country Dance group in Columbus, Ohio, in 1977, which remains active to this day. John and Betty were also active participants in the Columbus Folk Dancers for over 50 years. In addition, John was an enthusiastic wildflower observer, and collected thousands of wildflower photographs, and maps of their occurrence which he organized extensively. He loved crosswords and word play, and will be remembered for his quick mind and dedication to his family.

WEARY
ROXBORO - Viola Bowes Weary, 84, of 159 Maple Street, Roxboro, died Sunday morning, February 3, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Mrs. Weary was retired from Tultex Mills and a was a member of Longhurst United Methodist Church.

Surviving is a daughter, Becky Piso; sister, Carol Hughes; and brother, Mason Bowes.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Longhurst United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 5, 2008, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Longhurst United Methodist Church, 265 Providence Road, Roxboro, NC 27573.
