Police identify pedestrian killed in accident
Durham police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Sunday night on University Drive near Forest Hills Boulevard.
The accident happened at 9:07 p.m. when a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Peter Segal of Durham collided with a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
The pedestrian, identified as Daniel Leon Lauray Jr., 59, of Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene. Segal and a passenger in his vehicle were uninjured.
According to investigators, the accident remains under investigation, but no charges are pending.
University Drive was closed between Vickers Avenue and Summit Street while officers investigated the accident.
