Full day of basketball awaits
Duke and North Carolina’s women’s basketball teams have already entered postseason play while the rivals’ men’s teams close out the regular season tonight.
The ACC’s women’s basketball regular-season champion for the fourth consecutive year, Duke topped N.C. State 79-65 on Friday in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals at the Greensboro Coliseum. Tricia Liston scored 26 points for No. 6 Duke.
No. 15 North Carolina joined Duke in the next round by beating Boston College 62-57 Friday night.
The Blue Devils (28-2) will play No. 23 Florida State in the semifinals today at 1 p.m. Following that game, the Tar Heels (27-5) will take on No. 10 Maryland. Both games will be televised by Fox Sports Net South.
Later tonight, in Chapel Hill, UNC and Duke meet for their second regular-season men’s basketball game of the season (9 p.m., ESPN).
No. 3-ranked Duke (26-4, 13-4 in ACC) won the first meeting 73-68 at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham on Feb. 13. But UNC (22-8, 12-5) has won six in a row since then.
Duke is assured of the No. 2 seed for next week’s ACC Tournament in Greensboro, while UNC can lock up the No. 3 seed with a win over Duke. The Blue Devils are also in the running for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. A win at UNC would bolster their case.
