Police charge man in April slaying
Police have arrested a man in connection with an April homicide on South LaSalle Street in West Durham and charged him with murder.
Investigators arrested Rakeem Montel Best, 20, of Durham around noon Tuesday. He was taken to the Durham County Jail. A magistrate said no bond had been set late Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call around 9:10 p.m. April 18 at Duke Manor Apartments, 311 S. LaSalle St. and found JeJuan Jonteil Taylor Jr., 19, of Durham, shot inside a vehicle near Building 44. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that it was not a random incident.
Two other people – Hope Farley, 19, of Durham and Thomas Antwan Clayton, 21, of Morrisville – were arrested in April and charged with murder in connection with this case. Farley and Clayton were both also charged with conspiring to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Farley and Clayton remain in the Durham County Jail.
