Schools set makeup days

Durham Public Schools students may have enjoyed two days off last week, thanks to a winter storm that brought nearly two inches of snow to town.

But they must make up the missed days beginning Feb. 17.

Students on both traditional and year-round calendars will makeup the Jan. 29 school day on Feb. 17.

The day is listed on the traditional calendar as a staff workday and on the traditional calendar as a utility day, only to be used if inclement weather forces school to close.

Students on the year-round school calendar will make up Jan. 30 on Feb. 14, which also is listed as a utility day.

Meanwhile, students on the traditional school calendar will make up Jan. 30 on March 28, also a staff work day.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools system also will have students make up missed days on Feb. 17 and March 28.

In the event that inclement weather again forces Durham Public Schools to close this academic year, year-round schools have five inclement weather days available – Mach 31 and April 1-4.

Traditional calendar schools have two days remaining – April 14 and 15.

State law requires 180 school days each year.
