Witnesses report several shots fired on Liberty Street
At least three people called 911 on Saturday afternoon to report the fatal shooting of Alfredo D. Jobel, 28, on Liberty Street.
The Herald-Sun obtained copies of the recordings from Durham’s emergency communications department Monday.
One caller, a woman, told an operator: “I was sitting at the light. The light was red. There was just a bunch of gunshots.”
She saw a man get out of one of two cars – one brown, the other blue – and run into a nearby house.
She also said that she saw a man lying on the ground.
When the operator asked the woman’s name, the caller replied: “Is that important?” She then said she just wanted to get help for those involved.
A second female caller made brief contact with the 911 operator, screaming for a police officer to come to the vicinity of Liberty Street and Park Avenue.
The third caller, a man, told the operator that he heard several shots.
“Did you see anything?” the operator asked.
“No,” he answered. “I hear a pop-pop-pop-pop-pop.”
But he followed up seconds later, saying he saw at least one man drive away in a brown vehicle.
No arrests had been made in the case on Monday afternoon. Kammie Michael, Durham police spokeswoman, said investigators didn’t have any new information to release.
Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator A. Cristaldi at 919-560-4440, ext. 29322 or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
