Man facing sex charges was scout leader
DURHAM – John Herbert Adams, a Bahama man arrested last week on child sex-abuse charges, led Boy Scout Troop 439.
Adams, 50, was arrested by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday after he was accused of taking photographs of a girl who was between age 3 and 4 in explicit poses during the past few years.
John Akerman, Scout executive and chief executive officer of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, said Monday that Adams “was immediately removed from Scouting and has been permanently banned from participating in the Scouting program.”
“Although these events are unrelated to Scouting, along with the rest of the community we are shocked to learn about the allegations against this individual, which run counter to everything for which the Boy Scouts of America stands,” Akerman said.
Adams was released from the Durham County Jail after posting $75,000 bond.
