Memorial for slain pastor canceled
A public memorial slated for this weekend to celebrate the life of Kent Hinkson has been canceled so his family can mourn in private.
A post Thursday night on the family’s website read: “This is a time when his family is dealing with overwhelming grief and trying to make sense of the events of the last ten days since his disappearance and death. Kent’s death has been a highly public matter, and because of this, the family has elected to grieve together privately and quietly at a family service.”
Initially, a public memorial was planned for Saturday afternoon at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Hinkson was reported missing Aug. 4 after leaving his house to run errands. Less than a week later authorities were led to his body in the Eno River State Park in Orange County.
Matthew Reed, 36, of Raleigh has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Hinkson’s death. Police have not released a possible motive.
