Frontier Communications customers in Durham's Holt Exchange area are experiencing a major service interruption with telepphone and high-speed interent service because of a  vehicle accident overnight.

A car ran off the road and hit the Frontier switching equipment, pushing it off the foundation, and severed all communications, according to a release from Frontier.

Several hundred Frontier customers on Terry Road, Bivens Road and St. Mary’s Road in the Holt exchange of Durham are impacted by this outage. Some cell sites are also affected.  Durham 911 has been notified.

Frontier technicians were on site this morning and are procuring replacement equipment to restore service to the area.  The process is expected to take several days because a total replacement of switching equipment is required.

Frontier's release said the company extends its apologies to its customers for this inconvenience.
