American Tobacco is adding a new attraction, The Ice Factory, to its lineup of holiday offerings this year. American Tobacco and the Carolina Hurricanes will launch the seasonal ice skating rink Nov. 15 when the new basketball arena, The Cage, undergoes the ice transformation.
The new ice rink complements American Tobacco’s traditional holiday celebrations, including the Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge, the TROSA tree lot, holiday train rides through Diamond View Park and the annual tower lighting.
The ice rink will be open to the public from Nov. 16 through Jan. 30. Admission is $10 per person, per session. Here is the schedule:
-- Tuesday-Thursday: 4-9 p.m.
-- Friday: 4-11 p.m.
-- Saturday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
-- Sunday: Noon-5 p.m.
The skating rink will be closed Mondays and Christmas Day.
The Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge and American Tobacco Tower Lighting will be held Dec. 6, with the tower lighting and program beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing until 7. Each year, nonprofit organizations decorate trees on the lawn of the Durham Performing Arts Center and compete for prize money based on votes. The Triangle Tree Challenge lighting and voting for the best tree begins from 7 to 8 p.m. Voting for trees continues through Dec. 20, and trees will be on display through Jan. 3.
Several free programs for children will be offered at the TROSA tree lot, in Diamond View Park on the lawn of the Durham Performing Arts Center. Here is the schedule:
-- Nov. 30, 1-3 p.m. Train ride through Diamond View Park
-- Dec. 7, 1-3 p.m. Train ride through Diamond View Park and holiday craft making with The Scrap Exchange.
-- Dec. 14, 1-3 p.m. Train ride through Diamond View Park and holiday craft making with the Scrap Exchange.
