Man charged with murder after wreck involving victim’s car
Police arrested a Fayetteville man Thursday morning after he wrecked a car in Harnett County that, it turns out, belonged to a Durham murder victim.
John Franklin Alexander, 34, has been charged with murder, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property.
Those charges were added by Durham police after he was booked into the Harnett County Jail following a traffic accident.
On Tuesday, police found Ella Everette Davis, 58, dead in her apartment in the Greens of Pine Glen complex near Southpoint.
In Harnett County, law enforcement officials charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed firearm, two counts of trafficking a Schedule I controlled substance, two counts of resist, delay and obstruct a law enforcement officer, assault on a law enforcement officer, simple possession of Schedule II drug, driving while impaired and possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
The murder of Davis did not appear to be random, police said.
Schedule I drugs include heroin, LSD and cocaine, and Schedule II drugs include prescription pain killers such as Oxycontin.
Alexander was being held in Harnett County under a $1 million bond, according to the Harnett County Sheriff’s website.
