Train victim apparent suicide
Jan. 15, 2014 @ 06:00 PM

Corbin Lee Valdez, 23, walked toward the Amtrak train on Sunday and didn’t get out of the way, despite a conductor sounding the horn several times, according to Durham police investigators.

He was killed about 12:20 p.m. by a train bound from Raleigh to Charlotte as it passed over a trestle on Neal Road in Durham.

Valdez last year was arrested in Southern Pines on burglary and larceny charges. He served about five months in prison, from April to September 2013. It’s not clear what brought him to Durham.
