Agricultural summit set Feb. 11
The 15th Annual Orange County Agricultural Summit will be Feb. 11 at the Schley Grange Hall.
Topics will include historic farms, the Orange County Farm Heritage Project, agritourism, the PLANT program and Breeze Farm Incubator, direct and wholesale opportunities for poultry and livestock producers, farm financing alternatives and an update on agricultural legislation.
The summit is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by an optional tour at 2 p.m. of the Piedmont Food and Agricultural Processing Center in Hillsborough. The tour will include a demonstration of the new vegetable and fruit wash and grade line and the fruit grinder and juicer.
The cost is $10, which includes a catered lunch by the Chapel Hill restaurant, The Pig, which will use ingredients from local farmers.
Barry Jacobs, chairman of the Orange County Board of Commissioners, will welcome the group at 8:30 a.m., with the first session beginning at 8:35 am.
The Schley Grange Hall is at 3416 Schley Road, six miles north of Hillsborough, just west of the intersection of Schley Road and N.C. 57.
