Vacancies on boards, committees and commissions
The City of Durham is seeking interested citizens to serve on the Durham Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission, Durham City-County Appearance Commission, Durham Performing Arts Center Oversight Committee, Durham Planning Commission, Equal Business Opportunity Program Advisory Committee, Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees, and the Workforce Development Board.
Durham Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission -- One vacancy to represent the category of NCCU liaison.
The primary purpose of the commmission is to provide advice to the City Council and the Board of County Commissioners on questions relating to bicycle and pedestrian issues. The commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the Committee Room at City Hall.
Durham City-County Appearance Commission -- One vacancy. The purpose of the Commission is to enhance and improve the visual quality and aesthetic character of Durham City and County.
The board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Conference Room B on the Ground Floor of City Hall.
Durham Performing Arts Center Oversight Committee -- Three vacancies to represent Community Relations, Arts & Culture and Facility Management.
The purpose of the committee is to monitor the implementation of the operating agreement for the Durham Performing Arts Center with the operator, PFM/Nederlander.
The committee meets quarterly on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Venable Business Center at 302 E. Pettigrew Street.
Durham Planning Commission -- One vacancy. The commission reviews recommended plans, policies and reports of the professional planning staff and makes recommendations concerning them to the governing bodies on planning policy and planning implementation actions, including rezoning and zoning ordinance changes.
The commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall.
Equal Business Opportunity Program Advisory Committee - Six vacancies to represent one non-SDBE construction firm owner, two SDBE construction firm owner, one SDBE non-professional services firm owner and two SDBE professional services firm owners.)
The board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at noon in the Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department at 211 Rigsbee Avenue.
Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees -- Two vacancies. The responsibilities of this committee are to govern the disbursement of operating funds which are acquired through taxes paid by insurance companies.
Workforce Development Board -- One vacancy representing Private Sector. The Board acts as an advisory board to the Durham County Workforce Investment Act Program administered by the City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development. The Committee meets the fourth Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. in January, March, May, July, September and November.
For each of these boards, members serve without compensation and for all but the Workforce Development Board must live within the city limits of Durham. For the workforce boad, they must reside within the limits of Durham County or have their principal place of business within the Durham County limits.
