Fire damaged a Durham Exchange Club Industries warehouse Friday, forcing an evacuation of employees. No one was hurt.
Firefighters were called at 5:54 p.m. to the warehouse at 1717 E. Lawson St. after flames were reported, Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department said.
Four employees had escaped when firefighters arrived.
The building's sprinkler system held the fire back, but Fire Department hose lines were required to fully extinguish the fire, he said.
Iannuzzi said the part of the warehouse that burned was 50,000 square feet, and an adjoining space occupied another 50,000 square feet.
Both parts of the warehouse sustained smoke damage.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.
Thirty firefighters responded to the call, including a ladder company from the Durham County Fire Department.
Crews were on the scene for more than three hours.
