Durham man charged in attempted abduction

DURHAM – A girl told police that a 28-year-old Durham man tried to drag her into his home while she was playing outside Tuesday.

About 2:15 p.m., the girl said, a man approached and offered her money to go into his home.

“She refused and he then grabbed her by the wrist and shoulder and started to drag her away,” said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Two other nearby children ran after the man, stomped on his feet and pulled the girl to safety.

Police arrested Alfredo Contreras-Palacio and charged him with second-degree kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a child. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $500,000 bond.

Durham man faces child sex assault charges

DURHAM - A U.S. Marshals Service task force on Wednesday captured a Durham man in Indiana and accused him of sexually assaulting a juvenile in Durham two months ago.

The man, 28-year-old Nelly Garcia-Rojas, was arrested in Zionsville, Ind. He was was charged with first-degree sexual offense on a child in connection with an incident that was reported in February.

- John Herbert Adams, 50, of Blazing Star Lane in Bahama was arrested Thursday and charged with indecent liberties with a child, second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree sexual exploitation and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $75,000 bond.
- Brandy Nicole Barnett, 30, of Morreene Road in Durham was arrested Thursday and charged with indecent liberties with a child, second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and felony child abuse. She was held in the Durham County Jail under $300,000 bond.
- Christopher Gaddy, 19, of Hyde Park Avenue in Durham was arrested Wednesday and charged with financial card theft, identity theft, obtaining property under false pretenses, assault with a deadly weapon, breaking and entering and interfering with an electronic monitoring device. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $315,000 bond.
- Kalid Gillard, 22, of Hicks Street in Durham was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver MDPV (or methylenedioxypyrovalerone). He was held in the Durham County Jail under $80,000 bond.
- Jeremy Ross, 26, of Stardust Drive in Durham was arrested Wednesday and charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from the Durham County Jail after posting $75,000 bond.
